What kind of wood to use on vaulted ceiling?
Comments (3)personally I like beadboard with clearseal. light and shows the beauty of the wood. also light wood opens up the space. you could stain it to whatever color you'd like. but... before you install your beadboad put an air barrier on the joists/rafters. I find that wood ceilings leak a lot, when I blower door test the house. this entry for hot/cold air to enter has a big effect on the comfort/efficiency of the house. we use tyvek material attached to undersides of joists/rafters, draped down on walls for sheetrock to be installed over it. then attach the wood to the tyvek covered area. (ceiling joist or roof rafters depending on type of ceiling you have) also putting the beadboard on a diagional is a look I really like. (but that's just me) best of luck....See MoreCold main level & hot second level in winter
Comments (6)There is no pat answer for your problem but a good place to begain is by asking if down stairs was warming well in the past. If so make sure (A) All elements/burners are operating (B) Both return and supply ducts are not leaking (C) Cooling coils are not dirty restricting air flow. After that,it's probably time to call in the pros unless you are exceptionally mechanicaly talented. If you are indeed talented and have tools we can walk you through the testing process....See Morewolf 48” in blower or remote blower hood vent
Comments (46)We fully agree that homeowners should do extensive research including the use of Houzz and other social forms But that also should in our opinion includes speaking to licensed professionals in the supporting fields for their project And that is exactly what we did And we did meet with licensed Structural Engineers , Hvac, general contractor, Electricians and plumbers etc. Every one of them as well researched from their licensing to customer reviews/feedback Houzx is a great form to use but again you don’t really know the background of the people you’re speaking with and their opinions are worth noting but should be validated There comes a point in our experience and knowledge that we have to bow out because we are not professionals in this field Anybody who takes offense to our bowing out should not ...we know limits and cannot provide more than we already have. Please start another strand for future questions as we will not be commenting on this any further....See MoreCold Air return in great room
Comments (10)The plans are pretty hard to read. My first thought is why the heck would you have duct work up high in a basement house that is mostly a ranch? But I can't really tell what I am seeing... Either way, you can't just move these things around very easily. While you probably should have your ductwork between the first floor and basement, that isn't going to change now. The return looks fairly small also but maybe this is just for a/c? Most returns in this situation are horizontal because there isn't a vertical plane for ducts over head. Neither is great but you need to walk around and see if there is a ceiling area where you wouldn't mind the return that is in the open area. Since much of your area is vaulted, there probably isn't a better choice. Avoid being near cooking also. I doubt in Ohio an engineer is needed to place the return (and probably not even to size it)....See Morealan lapedes
