It's go time! Appliance choices
Comments (10)I've had the Elux Icon single oven for more than 5 years now. Yep, solid, reliable, great performance. Love the glide out shelves , large oven window and the wavetouch controls. Good decision to go with a single oven---they have a far better reliability than do double ovens, regardless of brand. We use our Elux Speed oven, as our 2nd oven, actually we use it more than the larger oven, saves a lotta time and energy, like baked taters or yams in 14 minutes instead of an hour. Most the folks that have the Advantiums are as happy with them, as I am with mine, but being older, I kinda like to have similar (wavetouch) controls on both ovens, kinda like always getting in the same car and driving it, you get familiar with it---Ya know what I mean? Anyway great decisions!!! Gary...See MoreI would love feedback on my appliances choices!
Comments (11)Chefk's point about induction heat isn't really the point when looking at vent hoods. Rather, it's the kind of cooking you do that should govern your exhaust requirements. If you are doing hamburger frying, fish frying, wok cooking, it is irrelevant whether it's by induction or gas or electric. You will need to exhaust the grease, smoke and odor arising from that cooking no matter what type of energy is being used. I would rather you have 600 cfms for your 36" cooktop. Perhaps you will only need the entire 600 cfms 3x a year. But you'll be glad during those 3x that you have them. The rest of the times you can use the lower settings. My credo is that flexibility is a key feature of kitchen planning. Why would you want to be locked into 250 cfms? Also, I agree with Capecodcook that capture area, depthwise, is important. While 27" depth is great, it may not be feasible for your budget, and some people find they bang their heads. 24" depth is good. I am certain VAH has other choices than what you've cited, that have more cfms than the 250 you've chosen. And also there are so many other exhaust manufacturers out there with other choices. One thing you should NOT get is an exhaust with mesh filters. Stay away from mesh filters. Instead, either the VAH squirrel cage, or other brands' traditional baffle filters are what you should get....See MoreAm I making a mistake by not making my appliances matchy matchy
Comments (24)re ice maker. We have had this model twice. We had a 2008 model in a prior house that we did not buy. That one had the ice freezing problem. It wasn't a huge deal - we just thawed the ice every few weeks and start over. This one we have now is a 2014 mode that we plugged in about a year ago. No ice trouble. It is very quiet. The filtered water works great. No complaints. I found a bunch of the filters in a mark down section and bought them up. So far, they last us about 6 months each. Easy to replace. Don't throw away the plastic part that attaches to the filter. I did that the first time by mistake. I had to order another online....See MoreOne small step forward on bathroom tile choice
Comments (51)Raven and April-you were right...most of their tiles are not suited for bathrooms. I went to their showroom today. The only one they recommend is the tile they are suggesting for mcm. However, I loved the tile, but think I'll probably stay with fireclay. engrgirl- I really appreciate your thoughts and I am seriously considering doing something just like that, except maybe run the hex floor into the shower. I also might add the tile to that back wall by the bathtub...just need to think about it some more. :) sas95-gorgeous tile! I really love that color! What I mean by sacrey is that it's not a small space I will be tiling - almost 700 sq. Feet of colored tile, and very expensive tile at that (by my standards). So it is a big expensive commitment. If the space was smaller, I wouldnt hesitate to do a colored floor. Namarie - i agree! I am still considering all white. I agree it would be pretty to just let the outdoor colors pop in. What do you all think of the matte white hex with white grout? I really am not attracted to white floor hex tiles with dark grout. I just need to decide if I should do color in the shower or all white. I really think I am getting closer to a decision. I couldnt have done it without you guys!!!...See MoreUser
