Ideas to update & add curb appeal - 1970s home with neo-mansard roof?
Comments (7)Extend a welcome! Develop a planting bed extending from the front walk across the front of the house along the bow window. Include low shrubs, groundcover, and colorful perennials for year-round interest. Reserve a small area dedicated for flowering annuals for a pop of color (see below). Consider integrating an additional focal point near the entrance. For example, you could draw attention and enhance the arrival experience with a small bubbling fountain or lovely piece of sculpture. Add a bench or chair for a welcoming touch and a spot from which to enjoy your yard. Photo Gallery Layered plantings...See MoreTrim/door updates for 1970s modern home with cedar ceiling?
Comments (1)Your home has a mid century modern look to it. I would play that up with what you choose for doors and trims. You might do a search for mid century modern homes, and look through them for something that you would like in your house. Usually that would be a sleeker more simple lines for doors and trim, etc. Since it is also quite light (beautiful ceiling by the way), you may even want to look up scandinavian style homes....See More1970s home needs an update

Comments (8)I think a re-work of the shrubbery and hedge right of the round post is in order, along with removal of the shutters on the triple window if there is no variation in the brick color behind them. Have you considered replacing the trim shutters with some that at least appear as though they could actually function and close over the windows? Enlarge all exterior lantern lights to be 1/3 of the front door's height. Match garage door color to stucco or siding. If stucco is in good shape just keep it. You might match the column to the wall on the other side of the porch. Black or white both seem a bit stark to me. Does your gas pole light work? Sometimes I think capping those off and removing them is a better look. Is there another tree further out in the yard, more or less aligned with the triple window? You might consider planting an ornamental there....See MoreFred Jackson
