update 1970s Home
Comments (9)Congrats on the new house! I agree with everyone saying the landscaping is going to be your best friend here, when it comes to downplaying the stone. Another great way to pull the focus away from the stone is to paint/update the garage doors. If you're unafraid of color, you could consider something really bold. On midcentury style homes like this, grays with bright pops of color work well. This one is a really good example: midcentury update...See MoreTrim/door updates for 1970s modern home with cedar ceiling?
Comments (1)Your home has a mid century modern look to it. I would play that up with what you choose for doors and trims. You might do a search for mid century modern homes, and look through them for something that you would like in your house. Usually that would be a sleeker more simple lines for doors and trim, etc. Since it is also quite light (beautiful ceiling by the way), you may even want to look up scandinavian style homes....See More1970s home needs an update
Comments (1)Any ideas to update the exterior? I dislike shutters and i definitely do not like the white addition to the front porch. i would like a modernized classic look....See More1970s Colonial Exterior Updates
Comments (6)The siding is vinyl so I don't think we can paint it. It might be hard to tell from the picture but the brick is a slightly off-white color. I don't like the bush under the window but think removing it would make the windows look even smaller. The steps are concrete with carpet that is peeling off so I think we are going to remove the carpet and either put decking or some sort or pavers or outdoor tile over them. I think the piller needs to be updated to a square design as well. We definitely want to replace the door and it is ugly and drafty. We eventually plan to do an addition over the garage so at that point I think we'll update the siding and windows as well. I'm thinking about making the addition roof to be pitched the other way so the "A" pitch faces the road. Then maybe redo the portico so that this also has an "A" pitch facing the street to tie in the addition. I think this will help give the house some dimension. It's just so plain and flat right now....See MoreFred Jackson
