1970s home needs an update
Comments (1)Any ideas to update the exterior? I dislike shutters and i definitely do not like the white addition to the front porch. i would like a modernized classic look....See MoreCan you paint stone veneer to update the exterior of this 1970’s home?
Comments (7)Your stone is a beautiful color. I would not paint it. You should consider painting the rest of the house as well as the garage door. The posts on your porch need a bit of beefing up. Can you replace the posts with cedar or have them wrapped in wood? Find a color that you like in the stone face and paint the house that color. Then you have a starting point to look for an accent color to paint the trim and the shutters. Also, changing the light fixtures would give this house a needed update. Something with straighter lines would work better with your architecture....See More1970s ranch needs an update
Comments (27)15 months later, bc life happened and I simply couldn’t focus on this project, we finally started. I decided against painting the brick, in favor of preserving as much of the home’s character as I can and still be happy with it. I decided to follow Patricia Colwell Consulting’s advice and address the exterior last, with whatever budget is left. At least for the moment. Norwood Architects, we paid to re-engineer the roof and extended the kitchen, which, as predicted, has eaten up much of the budget. Otherwise, I think I’d love that metal seamed roof you suggested. I posted an update bc all of the exterior framing and roofing is done and I am focused on the interior finishing details. I have changed my mind on the details so much that I’m sure the builder and his design partner have tired of me. But the interior designer and architect, who both seem knowledgeable, agree on little. Leaving me dazed and confused!...See More1970s Colonial Exterior Updates
Comments (6)The siding is vinyl so I don't think we can paint it. It might be hard to tell from the picture but the brick is a slightly off-white color. I don't like the bush under the window but think removing it would make the windows look even smaller. The steps are concrete with carpet that is peeling off so I think we are going to remove the carpet and either put decking or some sort or pavers or outdoor tile over them. I think the piller needs to be updated to a square design as well. We definitely want to replace the door and it is ugly and drafty. We eventually plan to do an addition over the garage so at that point I think we'll update the siding and windows as well. I'm thinking about making the addition roof to be pitched the other way so the "A" pitch faces the road. Then maybe redo the portico so that this also has an "A" pitch facing the street to tie in the addition. I think this will help give the house some dimension. It's just so plain and flat right now....See MoreBeverlyFLADeziner
