Help -which direction should I run wood floors in open kitchen/FR
Comments (6)I forgot to add that the new space will have to have engineered wood floors(since they are on a slab) but the existing floors are solid (Mirage prefinished) if that makes a difference. It's also possible that the new floors will differ in not having the same microbevel as existing floors. I don't know if I should avoid a microbevel in the kitchen or match the other floors. Thanks....See MoreWhich direction would you run the flooring and why?
Comments (3)Hmmm, I'm leaning toward vertically(?) because it looks like the planks would lead you between rooms, and the planks would go the length of the hallway. I didn't go through the whole floorplan though. Think about how you would place the furniture. My planks are parallel to my main sofa but cut across the short width of the kitchen. Since I don't look at the floor of the kitchen very much, it doesn't bother me. When I put hardwood in the bedrooms, the planks will be parallel to the lengths of the beds. They will be perpendicular to the planks in the stair treads, and I think that might be better especially if the stair tread planks are a different width than the floor planks. Think about the flow through the rooms. The planks will visually lead you through the rooms. Start with the front door. The tile there will lead you somewhere, then the floor might pick up the path. The foyer tile is throwing me off. Would you want to carry the foyer tile through the hallway to the master suite entrance? That way, if you had wood treads on the stairs, you would have some contrast. Or you could do wood in the foyer and paint the stair risers white. I would not depend on the stairs remaining carpeted or with a runner. What are you planning to have on the stairs?...See MoreWhich direction to run flooring planks?
Comments (2)Well, in part it depends on if you're on a subfloor or second floor, then you would run the planks so they cross the joice for support purposes. That's what we had to do when we laid our floors. However, if you're on ground level and have no support issues, I would run the boards so that looking in from the door, they run the length of the room. When you do I think opens up the room and it's more appealing to the eye, but here's a few samples of both directions from the door, which direction is more appealing to you? Pic taken from the door boards in this direction seem to create a nice flow because everything is in the same direction. These are also laid lengthwise from the door, (on right) but the room is wide verses long. Another lengthwise from the door. This one is from left to right from the door entry. To my eye, it makes the room look smaller ETA: Sorry Neetsie, I'm not a N/S E/W kind of gal, for me it's all about what the end result will look like from the door....See MoreWhich direction should I run wood plank porcelain tiles?
Comments (0)I’m installing wood plank porcelain tiles 6x24. Which direction should I run the tiles? Should I run it vertical or horizontal as soon as I walk in from the main entry way? Right now I’m thinking of running it Vertical longways from front to back. I shot a video of the house, the floor is bare right now. https://youtu.be/oRStitu8zJ8 There’s a house, exactly the same model nearby that i saw online and they had their wood look tiles running horizontally. I’ll attach pictures. Main entry away Main living room formal dining area or living room 2 Guest bathroom Laundry area kitchen master bath...See Morecherylbirth
