Living room layout & design help needed
Comments (6)The problem is obviously all those doorways. However, I would ignore them in terms of placing furniture and put a comfortable chair on each side perpendicular to the sofa. As long as the chair is small enough that you can easily get around it it's not going to matter if it partially obstructs the doorway. You want to have a U-shaped configuration so that as many people as possible can watch TV comfortably. You'll also need side table between the couch and the chairs in addition to a coffee table in order to make the room look furnished and so that people can place their coffee cups, dessert plates etc, somewhere. You might want to see if there's enough room on one side to place a small loveseat which can seat one adult and one child to increase seating. I would strongly consider a large area rug to lend some softness and color to this room which has so many openings with the bare windows and three large doorways. This will make the seating area look more finished and cozy rather than just some haphazardly placed furniture. More pillows would also be a good idea to soften the scheme and give it some cohesiveness, with the pillows picking up some of the colors of the rug. Colorful and interesting wall art would be a necessity to finish off this room, with more furniture (bookcases, desks, a secretary etc.) against the walls....See MoreNeed help with living room design/layout!!
Comments (3)Perhaps trying some nice artwork that matches your current color scheme would work on that blank wall. We also might suggest looking at getting a round coffee table, and perhaps an arc lamp to go in the corner. Comments (7)Thanks @AnnKH - good questions... What I disliked about the kitchen before was it was a galley type kitchen but with an island that literally felt like it blocked the fridge and sink for me. I used to hit my hip on the island countertop all the time to reach the sink and it was super annoying. So I'd like an open layout this time and have one large island with the sink in it so I have a simple triangle or oven, sink and fridge with nothing in between. I like the idea of putting dishes away easily and having the fridge and sink near each other too. The kitchen did feel dark but we already took down the wall to the family so there's a 13' opening and the family room is flooded with light. We also opened up the hallway to the living room to get light from there too. I'm not sure adding another window would do much b/c that side of the house just doesn't get as much light. I would definitely love a breakfast nook because it was awkward to make our food and then take everything to the dining room. I love separate dining for formal events...but I want casual dining for everyday. That way if someone wants ketchup, they can just pop up and grab it!...See MoreLayout & Design Help Needed
Comments (6)MY advice id firsr take everything out that is not a must . That includes kids stuff , dog crat e and all the table sna nd other units that are holding stuff. You need actual lighting not a fan light so end tables and lamps for sure . The measurements are helpful but we need a to scale floor plan showing every window, doorway and where those lead . All the measurements clearly marked and all the funiture measurements too. As for wall color that comes later after you figur eout what to keep in the space .If that is your only child thye look big enought to have all that play stuff in their room and can bring things out and put them back as they play. Prety sure the dog crate can find a better home too.I disliek gallery walls and for sure if they are family photos IMO they do not belong in more public places but a hallways leading to bedrooms is a great place to do thoe matching frames. . So post the floor plan here on graph paper in jpeg format all the info clearly marked and post here in a comment DO NOT start another post....See MorePPF.
