How to frame pony wall for overhanging top without corbel support
Comments (45)Base cabinets were mentioned once. They would be good bracing! It seems the discussion went towards braces that you buy in a store. To attach base cabinets as bracing one will need angle iron, and a lot of fine tuning work in terms of the cabinet feet and height above the floor. Uh-oh. Sounds impractical now. So, the 90 degree braces at floor level now seem to be the best thing to do. mudworm, on lowes.com I entered two keywords: aluminum tube. I got positive results. Here are some of them. Item #: 215640 Item #: 216100. Go to wherever they have these in the store and you will see steel tube too. Or, web search for steel tube. I just figured that "aluminum tube" would be easier to search for. Buy aluminum tube if there is no steel. Once a metal is made into a tube it is very rigid. In home depot I have also seen steel and aluminum tube. So, tube IS available if you know where to get it. Tube is stronger than thin flat metal. If you add tube on top of the braces you will have both the benefits of what advertguy proposes and the benefits of the 90 degree bracing, and no deleterious secondary impact. advertguy in your latest post "Remove those braces from the bottom" is not clear. Comments (9)Thanks so much for the comments. I will have trash and recycle bins in the pull out in the island. Good idea to put another trash can under the sink. I was planning for the dishes and glasses to go in the uppers to the left of the range. The decorative pieces on each side of the range are pull outs for oils and spices. Silverware in the first small under counter drawer to the left of range. Cooking utensils in small drawer to the right of range (yes, I would rather have this in island - but no room) Pots and pans in roll out drawers to right of range. Lazy susan and pull out shelves in tall pantry area for food. What am I missing storage wise? I do have a pantry around the corner where I can store seldom used items. Island I have a good size drawer under the microwave. It is a microwave drawer so I think it is better on top. I thought about putting it by range, but now I think it will look better on back side of island. I can not make my island any bigger than 63" This is because there is a doorway on both sides that pen me in. I really have to get three barstools (three children) on the back of my island. I am thinking of putting a curve on it. Can I curve it and increase it from 12" to 15" overhang? Would this be better? Also, I don't want corbels under to hit knees, can I have supports with out seeing them? Thanks so much for your input!! (By finalizing my plan I feel like in one way I am finished, but really I am just getting started!)...See MoreSomething's Missing in the Bedroom
Comments (66)I think I'd prefer to keep the colors more subtle than red. I have the rust carpet on the floor and there are bits of red in the embroidery on the kimono but I think that is all the strong color I want. I have a pair of chairs that are similar in tone to the background of the kimono. Right now they are in the LR, but they were bought for the bedroom. As soon as I get all of the furniture sorted out in the LR (my sofa has been sent back to the factory!), those chairs will return to the bedroom. I'm not sure where the burgundy suede chairs will end up. Maybe in a guest room. This Design Seed reminds me of the colors in the room...See MoreCurb Appeal/Walkway Design Help
Comments (29)You could easily create a handsome finished product with those pavers. Rather than the contrasting color, edge stripe being set in a distance from the edge, you could just make it the edge and it could be a full 8" width stripe. With the charcoal grey, I also like the plain concrete color, which is much lighter, as the contrast stripe. It is a sharper contrast and looks dressy. Whatever colors you consider, get samples, enough to mock up a simulation which you can appraise from a distance with the house in the background, and base your selection on seeing it, rather than just guessing that it will be right. I've seen steps made of mortared pavers that I didn't care for, especially if the tread is a brick laid flat. This is too thin and makes the steps look cheap. The exception, as I mentioned above, is if the paver has a bullnose end (which is often used for pool coping) and the riser is the same material/color. The the riser and tread reads as a solid unit with a decorative edge (the bullnose) like a molding applied to trim work. Notice in your picture of pavers how thin the step treads are -- like tile. This makes the steps look cheap....See MoreKris Bruesehoff
