Potted up my Santa Teresa and thornless key lime...pics below
Comments (27)Thanks dev but I think the pic is deceiving, the pot is no wider than my regular 5 gallons, it is just a 2.5 gallon. I know the whole citrus taproot thing isn't true but I would imagine that as the trees get big the roots will almost fill the pot. No? The tall pots still make sense for me for space conservation in my grow room. I noticed the same thing Laura as repotted but I assumed that was because the old mix was boggy so the roots didn't want to go down. I thought with the 511 they may be more inclined to spread out a bit....See MorePlanning a cold hardy citrus shopping spree
Comments (20)It's better if you wait till spring to plant in ground. If you do it now, they will het stressed by the heat since their roots haven't setteld in yet. Then Winter comes while they're trying to recover.. The citrangequat is decent. I have one in 7b/8a that puts out a lot of fruit. a 5 year old tree from seed with 20-30 fruit. It flowered again last month, and set some more fruit. Decent limeish taste, and I do zero protection. For sour citrus, it does ok if you like limes. My wife is a lemon person so she doesn't partake. I tasted Changsha before as well, and it is also decent but get used to seeds. There is a seedless Changsha which might be out in a year or two from UGA. It's the best chance for sweet hardy citrus. I had a taiwanica but gave it to a coworker, as I have way too many citrus now. It has not fruited yet....See MorePrague citsuma update
Comments (7)Laura, please, correct me if I am wrong. Do you get winters anywhere close to what I get? wind chills of below 0 many times and lows into the single digits? Snow, blizzards and the like? I always imagined you living in an area with harsh winters like me. NO? By the way, you are so very kind. If you have winter a heck of a lot milder than mines, it may not be a good idea, I don't know. Ugh. This is my area today. 24 degrees today. Spring may come next month. I am happy it survived for you))))...See MorePrague citsuma in ground update
Comments (22)Hi Steve! I looked through some of the posts and saw that your trees are also well. Alexander is fine - full of flowers. I think he took some time off from holding fruit. Maybe he needed a break and I also think he may need a root trim and some freshening up of the 5-1-1. I feel so much better this year with the tree situation because I can light them better, check for bugs, and it’s much easier to water them. Alexander is in that corner - hard to see but he’s there. :)...See Morebklyn citrus (zone 7B)
