My Citrus in containers
Comments (59)Hi steve, did you drill the holes on the bottom as well as side? Is miracle-glo pine bark mulch at Home Depot a pine fines? What type of potting soil? Is MG perlite mix (small print enhanced with plant food) the perlite that 5-1-1 calls for? If i keep all the plants in the nursery dirt and container for 2-3 weeks, should I keep them in shade? I will be too busy to care for them .as far as water schedule, how often should I water them in nursery pots and new pots?...See MoreMy new Dekopon from Harris is very top-heavy...I'm worried
Comments (42)My New Zealand lemonade tree was very top heavy. While I am very much against trimming citrus I decided to because the top growth was in a bad zig zag form that might cause problems down the road. I mailed the twigs to pip for him to graft. The post office used their pony express mail system and it took just under 2 weeks to go 250 miles. The twigs arrived dead and moldy. To make matters worse I found out the PO sold their horses and bought donkeys for their Cincinnati to Troy high speed mail delivery system. I had been wrestling with to trim or not for about a month. I had a pole about 8 feet tall to tie a support string to aid the tree while it stiffened up for the summer....See MoreShould I pot these little cuties up this season?
Comments (62)Ok Dev well you hit the nail on the head... except I never got a quote so the charge was a surprise to me! Not impressed but they decided to remove the charge so I guess the issue is rectified which I do appreciate. So I guess the message is to always get a quote to make sure everyone is on the same page. I kind of had trust that everything would be fair considering we all share this crazy citrus passion but I guess that's not the way the world works. Anyway I am happy it is resolved. Thanks Laura I thought I should say something but of course didn't want to be too rash. I hate surprises like that. Oh well, all is good now and the key lime luckily didn't get affected by the hail so that's something positive! It's darn thorny though I have already been stuck a few times!...See MoreBizarre Leaf Drying / Wilting Santa Teresa Lemon
Comments (56)Kendra got back to me and below is her response, I guess it could just be a coincidence that both Pac's and my tree are sharing similar symptoms at the same time and the wind damage is what hurt my tree. I don't know what else to do if that's not the case, I don't know how I would prove its dry root rot (or something else) and that it had it before I received the tree. I guess we will just wait and see if my tree recovers. I am reluctant to order another tree from them if its going to have the same problem but there doesn't really seem to be another supplier so I don't really have a choice if I want this variety. Here's hoping this tree makes it through winter. Pac how is your tree looking? Hello there, Thank you for sending over pictures it helps us understand what you are seeing. I’m thinking that coming from our growing houses into a new environment and then getting blasted by some wind has cause this damage. Wind damage on citrus trees often looks like this. I wouldn’t be surprised if these leaves turn brown and crispy, unfortunately it may get worse before it gets better. So if that happens the leaves will probably fall off. You may even want to help them along. As long as your stems/branches stay green and have no die back, and it may take a while but the tree should push some new growth. The Santa Theresa’s are very hardy lemons. Because you live in Oregon this tree is going to need an adjustment period but it should bounce back. Keep us updated!!
