My Citrus in containers
Comments (59)Hi steve, did you drill the holes on the bottom as well as side? Is miracle-glo pine bark mulch at Home Depot a pine fines? What type of potting soil? Is MG perlite mix (small print enhanced with plant food) the perlite that 5-1-1 calls for? If i keep all the plants in the nursery dirt and container for 2-3 weeks, should I keep them in shade? I will be too busy to care for them .as far as water schedule, how often should I water them in nursery pots and new pots?...See MoreFour Winds Trees Have Arrived
Comments (42)Laura, I look forward to seeing the pictures. Hobby, it was a Hirado Buntahn Pummelo. I have not received its replacement yet, but, asked that Harris ship it out with my new order that I placed last Thursday. I talked to Ruth yesterday after I did not receive a shipping date for the order. Harris is putting shipments on hold at least a week until the temperature cools down across the country. It has cooled down in my neck of the woods, but, still hot in other areas. So, hopefully next week. :) I am still hoping to get a Cocktail Grapefruit.. It could be back in stock in a few weeks. That is the one that I would like to get for the last of the year.. We shall see.. lol...See MoreBizarre Leaf Drying / Wilting Santa Teresa Lemon
Comments (56)Kendra got back to me and below is her response, I guess it could just be a coincidence that both Pac's and my tree are sharing similar symptoms at the same time and the wind damage is what hurt my tree. I don't know what else to do if that's not the case, I don't know how I would prove its dry root rot (or something else) and that it had it before I received the tree. I guess we will just wait and see if my tree recovers. I am reluctant to order another tree from them if its going to have the same problem but there doesn't really seem to be another supplier so I don't really have a choice if I want this variety. Here's hoping this tree makes it through winter. Pac how is your tree looking? Hello there, Thank you for sending over pictures it helps us understand what you are seeing. I’m thinking that coming from our growing houses into a new environment and then getting blasted by some wind has cause this damage. Wind damage on citrus trees often looks like this. I wouldn’t be surprised if these leaves turn brown and crispy, unfortunately it may get worse before it gets better. So if that happens the leaves will probably fall off. You may even want to help them along. As long as your stems/branches stay green and have no die back, and it may take a while but the tree should push some new growth. The Santa Theresa’s are very hardy lemons. Because you live in Oregon this tree is going to need an adjustment period but it should bounce back. Keep us updated!! Comments (22)If your soil was still moist to the touch at the rootball but not rotting, and it's only at 60-65F then it's possible it's doing WLD. Root function stops around 55F. Your soil temperature might be lower than your air temp (60-65F). What could be happening is that the leaves are warm enough and is getting enough light to photosynthesize. But your roots are probably functioning at the bare minimum or much less active than the leaves so it can't uptake the water that the leaves need and so the leaves wilt. Try the soaking suggestion first. If it's not WLD, the soak should work. However, if soaking doesn't work and it is WLD then due to the large difference in leaf and root activity I'd suggest moving it to a spot with less light and hold back the watering like you're originally doing. Or water your tree with warmer water to increase the soil/root temperatures so it can match the leaf activity. A heating mat under your tree would work to increase root activity too. The main idea is to bring up the soil temperature to make the roots become as active as the leaves are or at least active enough to give the leaves what it needs for photosynthesis. But this only applies if this is a case of WLD. Is your tree in a terracotta pot? The color looks like terracotta but I can't tell by color if it's clay or plastic. If it's in a clay or terracotta pot, then your tree's soil temperature will definitely be colder than you think. I hope your tree pulls through...See MoreRelated Professionals
