Finally decided on backsplash...please help with layout
Comments (14)Just to clarify, because I'm a little confused. The tile is all going to be stacked and all the same size regardless if it's the glass or the opaque? The glass row will only be 1 tile tall, so you're trying to decide how many stripes and that will tell you how many tiles high of the opaque tiles you will use? Yes, mahlgold, you've got it right. My head was starting to spin, trying to explain it! :-) Thanks for asking for clarification. I have wanted glass mosaic all along, and I had something very similar in my last kitchen, so I am ready for the grout lines. The challenge was to bring a subtle suggestion of horizontality (is that even a word?) to the wall, to help ameliorate what I perceive as an imbalance on the range wall, as you may recall. So, yes, it will be quite different from the inspiration pic in overall effect. But, that was one of the ways I found to bring in a "horizontal" element. Yes, I do feel lucky at the moment. I see you are continuing to struggle. It is so hard. And, often when I think I am there, something shifts. I always wonder when it will end and if this time I really have it right. One thing interesting my husband said yesterday as we discussed all the different ways to use the Sandstone and pale blue together was that really any of them would look good. He's right and it helped me relax a bit. Just a bit. :-)...See MoreAfter pictures ..Finally complete less the backsplash!
Comments (32)thanks jsweenc - I'm so happy with my faucet. I've been functioning without any issues. Thank you for the wonderful comments. I by no means am a designer, but had a vision and was able to pull it off. I love the way our kitchen turned out. The floors are brazilian teak and I wasn't sure if I should match the color with the cabinets, go lighter or darker, so we went with these and I think it really works so well. We are almost 100% complete. We purchased the molding for our sunroom and should be done with that room before the end of the week... and the furniture comes in. As for the backsplash, it may be another 2 weeks before its in. But here's a picture of our selection. The first picture is the design we plan to use the 2nd picture is our color of choice. Its a white/gray tile and the glass tile will run as a border, has hints of reddish brown....See MoreBacksplash--Finally!
Comments (11)Thanks everyone for your kind words. I think the backsplash was the hardest decision in the kitchen. Grout color was a close second! Yes oldbat..it is a relief to have that decision made. It became just short or an obsession I think. ellendi..it's actually quartz. Cambria New Quay. Really happy with it. mpagmom..hope your install went smoothly today. Let us know....See MoreBacksplash finally done (after 5 years....)
Comments (22)I appreciate all the compliments! I know it's unusual and for most people, one of those things that you might be able to admire, but not for yourself (like me and granite countertops). @localeater - you are so funny because I do touch the turtles all the time! I figured it would be something interesting to look at while doing the dishes (this is our clean-up zone) and a pop of color in an otherwise blah color scheme. The honu (Hawaiian petroglyph turtle) has sort of been our family mascot, and we have three red-foot tortoises running around our backyard, so these tiles fit us. As requested, more pictures (let's see if I can figure out how to post more than one.)...See MoreJamie Reynolds Zone 9b
