Comments (3)Hi Anne: Don't want to burst your bubble, but if you go on www.snopes.com there are various versions to this story. I am posting the link so you can see exactly what I'm talking about. However, I was laughing my butt off as I read it. Thanks for the laugh. It came at a time when I really needed it. Comments (20)I've posted before that I once asked DH to pick up some heavy cream at the grocery, and he came home with a container of Cool Whip. I don't know how I was supposed to make a sauce out of that. One of the absolute weirdest experiences I ever had at a grocery store was when a woman, riding one of those mobility scooters, asked me to help her find a jar of cloves out of a wall of spices. Asked her, did she want the ground cloves or whole cloves. She looked puzzled and said, "I'm not sure". So trying to help I said, "well, what will you be using them in?" She looked embarrassed and said, "My neighbor told me to put them in my pooter." I was just about to say, "I beg your pardon" because I thought I heard her wrong. It took me a few very long seconds to realize that she had been instructed to use them as a suppository. I handed her the whole cloves and excused myself to continue shopping. I'm not sure whether her neighbor was having some fun at her expense, but I didn't want to hear any more of the story....See MoreFunny contractor tricks, part 1
Comments (12)As much as I enjoyed writing my little screed in the OP, I do want to say that our GC is always helpful in resolving these problems. I've never done such a huge remodel before, and I find it puzzling that there have been so many errors. We tried to provide all the right information up front; sometimes we didn't get it all down in writing and we've had to go back and review things with the builders. But just as often we've had things in our plans that they just missed. I took an opportunity on Friday to talk to one of the GC partners about their error rate on our job. He didn't think our project was so unusual for their company, but he did talk a lot about this vent fan issue and admitted that there were three opportunities for them to get it right and they missed each one. After that conversation I went back into the house with my dad and showed him our progress. Then I noticed that the HVAC sub had put an A/C vent outlet in the wrong place. After we'd asked for 3 weeks for him to put it in, showed the project manager WHERE to put it, given him a drawing of the new closets they were building there - still it is in the wrong place. sigh. Another conversation for Monday morning....See MoreAny funny/interesting Halloween stories?
Comments (3)We have an eight foot Grim Reaper dressed completely in black, skull face with black hood, huge green hands, one holding whatever that thing is called that grim reapers hold, not an axe, under the clothes he is made of PVC pipe, so when the wind blows even just a little, it sways and this just makes him that much creepier. We put him out in our yard every year-me and my sister are both small enough to fit inside this thing and manipulate the arms and we have a ball with this every year. One of us will get inside and when the kids come up we shake the heck out of the Reaper from inside and say in a scary voice 'give me your candy kid' Some get scared, some think it is funny, and then the pre teen crowd just does their normal thing-look at it with a disgusted look and say 'whatever' The kids in the neighborhood have come to expect this every year-they bring friends over to see it. We have a blast with it. We laugh so hard while doing this year after year, you would think we would grow up but what fun would that be....See MoreIris S (SC, Zone 7b)
