My hot pile hit 160F...Now what do I do?
Comments (25)It seemed to be nicely moist in most places. There were definitely some dry spots, especially in some of the timothy hay. I really didn't loosen up the hay when I put it in the pile. I simply peeled off chunks from the bale. They were still dry in a number of spots. I added some water, but I don't think it was enough. The pile has not shown any signs of heating up again. Since my compost pile is at my allotment site, and it is March, there is no ready, close source of water yet. The taps won't be on until May. I have been doing my best with some plastic jugs of water, but for a big pile, it does not seem to be enough. The forecast for the weekend is 25C and sunny too! Here is what it looks like after the turn. I rolled off the top bales at the front, revealing the darker composting material inside the bale bin. The darker bale in the lower right is timothy hay, the rest are straw. I also have spread a "lid" of loose straw over the compost. It still has a long way to go....See MoreI did not flush an soak my rockwool, what do I do now?
Comments (6)I have to disagree with homehydro on this one. You should probably start over unless you feel like you cannot afford to do so. The pH being wildly thrown around has surely adversely affected plenty of those seeds. I have a hunch that quite a few may not even sprout (although I could be wrong). If you want less headache, less worrying, and a higher probability of success, restart. There are already so many "ifs" in hydroponic growing, that if there is any way you can block a probability and make it a definite, you should probably do it. The only reason NOT to would be for saving cash. Also, about the rockwool cubes: I would soak them. Some say you need to, others say you don't. I say you most certainly should soak the rockwool cubes in a pH balanced water. In fact, I reccomend soaking them in tap water or RO water for say 10 or 15 minutes. Pull them out of that water. Get some new water, and make sure it is as close to 7.0 pH or lower as you can get it. Soak them in this water for 45 minutes. That should do it, and honestly you will be better off because your pH will already be shifty, especially if you are using hard tap water. Using this method of pre-treating the rockwool cubes, you wil have less trouble in the long run! If you don't want to mess with getting a pH perfect solution, you can actualy purchase rockwool conditioner that apparently many people find to work great. Some of it even includes a great balance of nutrients for your seedlings. Theres my 2 cents!...See Moremy beloved grandfather is gone, what do i do now
Comments (7)I am settled on a mild antidepressant now, but still unsure whether it is really helping. My husband has quit drinking, 3 weeks, now. I only drink socially, margharita at a mexican restaraunt is about the extent of my drinking. My son is taking an anger management class at school, but I think I am going to go ahead and make him an appt with someone to talk because he is dreaming now, the other night he sobbed for a solid 30 minutes after dreaming of my poppa, and he worries about every little thing, he is scared he is going to die, this can't be right for a 10 year old child. March 16th will be one year since he passed, I still struggle, but am trying to be strong for him and my daughter. It's funny and silly but I have a small dog who used to love going down to his house and sit with him and get treats, and now we are trying to clean the house up, and she will not set foot in the house, if we pick her up and take her in she whines and scratches at the door the whole time, weird, i don't know why she does this...just strange. I talk to him all the time and catch myself sometimes talking to him at random times, but it actually helps me i think...not sure, maybe not. Anyway thanks everyone for the advice!!...See MoreWhat do I do now with my grape vine?
Comments (9)No. You only have the young main cane so far so do no pruning this year. You might plan your support which is usually 2 or 3 lateral wires onto which you can train vines, 2-3 to one side and 2-3 to the opposite side. Next year you should be able to select those laterals and prune all others to 2 buds per vine coming from those laterals. The height of the lateral lines may vary but you might try 30", 50" and 70" from the ground....See Moreirina_co
