Ask him exactly how he abrades BonaSeal. He may be using the wrong product. It's not necessary to abrade between coats (within 48 hours) but doing so results in a smoother floor. It doesn't load up and comes out super smooth.

Loba products using the Loba UV Protect. It will stop the yellowing due to UV exposure. In fact it is SPECIFICALLY made for maple. Maple has TWO issues with yellowing: 1. the finish can produce yellowing (Bona Traffic HD does NOT do this). 2. the MAPLE turns YELLOW when sunlight (or even over head lighting) hits it. You need to find the TWO things that stop this: #1. Water borne finish that is "clear" or "non-yellowing" #2. UV protection/additive that stops the UV rays from affecting the maple. I don't know if bona has the #2 on the list....but I know for a FACT that Loba does. And their finishes are AMAZING!

In my experience, standard oil-modified polyurethane wears better, and it certainly costs a lot less. The downsides are slow drying, smell and ambering. As much as I like oil poly, I feel Weathered Oak would turn yellow over time if you use it. We used to recoat a salon floor regularly. At a seminar I asked an expert if he had any recommendations for a finish that would wear better than Traffic. He recommended oil poly and said it wears better than any of the top shelf waterborne urethanes, even the one his company sold. Unfortunately the salon was in a residence hotel and we could use it due to the odor. Depending on your wear and tear, Mega HD Clear might be a viable option for you. It costs about $50/gallon less than Traffic.

Thank you so much. My husband says to just leave it as is and if our daughter starts experiencing any headaches or such then we will try Bona. My daughter is super sensitive, she has been in the ER a few times so I am especially worried for her. I am just hoping the smell goes away a few days after the last coat which should be today. He said he used to use Bona a lot (never the stain so probably just the sealer) and that he had a lot of unhappy customers.
