Hand held shower fixture on a slide bar

I am having guest/office bathroom remodeled. Getting rid of tub and installing shower in it's place. There will be a glass panel but no door at this time. We'll block for one in case we change our mind on that later. As far as the shower fixtures go, I'm thinking of installing just 1 fixture - a hand-held shower on an adjustable bar. I don't have one anywhere else in the house and I haven't used one. Question is - does the shower head stay put really well when it's in a fixed position? I would want it to aim where expected when turning on the water, especially bc there will be no door.

My other option is to install a rainhead on a shower arm and a seperate hand-held and add a diverter. But if the one fixture will do it I'd prefer that. TIA.

We have adjustable hand-held rain shower fixtures in the master and guest bathrooms. We love them. I’m short and my husband is tall, so they work best for us. They can slide up or down as needed. After showering, I turn the shower head towards the wall before I turn it off to ensure water doesn’t spray on the bathroom floor.

So, while you're showering, does the shower head part of the hand-held stay firmly in place? My regular hand held (not on a slide bar) in my master always seems to be in different position, sort of sagging or tilting this way and that, so that's why I'm asking.

Try looking at the spec sheets for the fixtures you are considering- they should give you all the technical date on flow rates- in gpm(gallons per minute). Each fixture is going to be different, so you need to know the one you are looking at.

you'll have to most likely use a plastic insert to screw into unless you get lucky and hit a stud. In either case, just before you fasten the screws, fill the holes with Kerdi-fix, and wipe off any excess that squeezes out.

I have two of the Hansgrohe slide bars, one in brushed (satin?) nickel and one in oil rubbed bronze. I had a Grohe one previously. The hose is fine on all three. Grohe's hose was made of metal rings and a bit nicer. The Hansgrohe hoses are a different material; they are smooth, but I would not say that they look cheap or feel plasticky. I don't know whether or not they are painted rubber as you say. I have had them since January, so I can't judge how well they hold up long term. I have the shorter length hose on both, and I regret that a bit. I think it depends on how high off the floor your hose is mounted. Mine are high. In a shower or shower/tub, you want a long enough hose to rinse down all the walls. In my shower/tub, the hose doesn't reach the far end of the tub. On the other hand, I wouldn't want the hose to dangle onto the floor of the shower or into the tub. If/when mine wears out, I will buy the longer length for the shower/bath (but not for the freestanding shower). For now, it is not a big enough problem that I feel the need to replace it. I think the Hansgrohe slide bars work fine, as did the Grohe one I had previously. I think I remember someone mentioning on another post that the adjustment part of her Hansgrohe slidebar had worn out and had needed to be replaced. It was in her children's bathroom and had been frequently adjusted. Mine are fine, but as I said it had only been six months. One more thing: I didn't like the soap dish that comes with the bar. I have a niche where I keep the soap, and I think that looks better. It was easy to remove the soap dish. Of course, if you like it you can always leave it on.

Juanita, yes that is a hand held shower head along with the water controls. You sit in the tub and take a shower otherwise the water goes all over the bathroom. Here are more styles. I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish. Are you trying to use an existing tub/shower wall combination for a new free standing tub? Not going to work. Most freestanding tubs are deeper than built in tubs so the spout is too low to reuse.. Additionally if you purchase new faucets, you have to change the valves in the wall so there is no avoiding having to demo the tile and the wall.

If you buy a good quality one, it will stay in place! I used ones from Jaclo and very happy with them. They also function as grab bars when installed correctly. Get a longer bar to allow short kids and tall adults to shower comfortably. I used a 48" bar in my master shower and 36" bars in other showers.

Yes, the shower head stays in place. It only moves if someone moves it.

So many details. I have another question about the handshower on bar. Our tub to shower conversion will only have a glass panel, no door. Can I angle the handshower to spray more down than out? Or does the adjustment only control the height?

I have Danze nourish handshower on their slide bar and no complaints in 3.5 years. It is our primary family shower. You can adjust on a few different pivot points and there is an adjustment screw you can tighten if it gets loose. We only have adjusted that once in our ownership.

Ours adjusts both ways. If you're going doorless, make sure there is a proper slope to the drain, and that the whole floor is waterproofed.

Not all Slide bars with adjustable hand showers are grab bars. It has to say so and give the amount of weight it supports. Delta has both regular Slide bars with adjustable hand showers and adjustable slide bar/grab bars. You can buy it assembled or pick your own parts to pick the shower head you like. I liked a longer shower/grab bar and searched the Delta site for their longer grab bars and the separate hand shower mount and separate hose and elbow.

Thanks, those are great resources. My contractor said he would waterproof the whole floor, but I'm sure yet what materials/method he is planning to use. He's coming up next week. It's a tiny tiny area, so there's not much room from the door to the shower (like 30 inches) because it's just a toilet and a shower. The sink/vanity is in the bedroom (hotel style), but it's sort of around a corner, so not really smack dab in the bedroom. It's a pretty room, but the bathroom is horrible. I am in the planning phase right now (I'm following the Houzz Story about the phases of converting from tub to shower), so I will start new posts for my other questions. Thanks again!

Mine is Grohe. I'd had one 25 years in our former house with no issues or problems (other than replace the metal hose a couple of times, a diy), so didn't hesitate to include in two showers here.

Same here - Grohe - 2 shower sprayers as our main shower heads for 21+ years. Will do the same thing in the new house. No issues with them moving at all. (In fact, I don't think I could go back to a "fixed" shower head)

Speakman has an attractive slide bar that is also a grab bar. I love ours, so much so, that I bought one for my mom. too. . She loves it, as well.

Ours is Hansgrohe and adjusts up/down and tilts, all very secure.
