Lighting Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Help with above-the-sink mirrors / lights

It's time to retire the Kohler Mexican Sand.

I am planning a total master bath remodel with the attached materials and new white cabinets.

The tub and surrounding tile will be replaced with a stand-alone white oval tub. I need some help on how to design the wall above the sinks. I'm stuck on whether I should do 1 large mirror, and if so, do I frame it? I have been quoted 12k on one large back-lit LED mirror but that is not reasonable for this budget. Do I consider two individual mirrors over each of the sinks and if so, framed? And further, with either option, do I consider lights on both sides and in the middle? I like having the extra light for makeup application and as I live in the Pacific Northwest, light is welcomed. Suggestions and photos would be helpful

Maybe some more info, like style of vanity (floating, etc) would help. Are you after sleek contemporary like this...

I live out in the country and was aiming for the look in the 2nd picture. White, shaker cabinets to the floor, white sinks with the Pental Quartz Sorano Polished counter top. My interior house colors are white and Farrow and Ball Elephant's Breath and Charleston Grey. The pendant lighting in both of these examples is interesting. However, I have heard that overhead lighting isn't as flattering as side lighting.

That's one of my issues. I have 8-1/2 foot vanity and 9' ceilings. I would have loved to put scones on either side of two mirrors; however, my sinks are so close to the walls, that won't work. I was in desperate need of lighting so I bought "temporary" scones to put above the sinks (where my old lights were). Well, I love the lights! And where I once thought I'd put in two mirrors or one mirror framed in marble...I'm putting in a beveled mirror on the entire wall (I think). But...my first choice would have been to put sconces on either side of the mirrors. It's a beautiful look. Twogirls, I was also worried about the height of the ceilings. Are you putting in crown molding? That may help.

In the perfect world I would have them flip the vanities so that both have the drawers on the outside edge and the sinks on the inside edge. That would allow the lighting to be more flattering, beside the face rather than above the face. You still might be able to, having sconces at four points across the wall, at each of the vertical bands between the mirrors. Unfortunately the electrician has probably wired already for the overhead lights. My backup suggestion is for a third overhead light over the middle station, which I think would remedy this unbalanced look. If we could back up six months, I would say think of this before the build starts, but that is very easy for me to say now.

You have such a large space that it could be really nice to have individual mirrors over each sink. You can place wall sconces on either side and in the middle of the sinks at eye level. I would choose your light fixture before deciding on a mirror as those tend to be the main design element. Frame the mirror for sure, but with something thin and simple to keep it modernized. You can probably find something nice ready made.

So for those who have followed this, here is the finished product. I think my favorite thing about the remodel was my selection of the backlit LED mirrors by Electric Mirror which cast such a nice light when doing my makeup.
