Comments (11)Could that relate to the amount of effort invested in it, or how much one pushed one's self ? Dad had an above average sized farm for that time in 1939 when World War II started for a number of countries and I was 10 years old. Within about a year our hired farmhand went to war, and this preteen and a couple of younger brothers became Dad's favourite farmhands ... and we got some pay for our major ongoing help in summer. Sometimes when I'd been assigned a task and hadn't completed it very satisfactorily, I don't remember Dad's usual responses, or mine, but once when I said that I'd tried, his response, that became the favourite of all of us, was, "Yes - and that's what the steer did, wouldn't you say?" When I became an adult, I came up with what I consider an appropriate response, " ... and the result was inconceivable!"
