Probably aphids, my grapes get them also. Just spray them off with water.

I'm not sure they're eggs...my wife has reported these to me, but I haven't seen them yet. Still, the fact some appear on the underside of leaves suggests to me that they're eggs rather than natural outgrowths (or whatever your vines get, jean).

Thanks very mug fruitnut you made me feel a bit less worried. I decided to go with red flame because I didn't even see the variety you suggested. There was only red flame and ruby, and I read ruby was very auspectible to powdery mildew or something, and I thought my current grapevine is doin well so I'll get another. I can eat a lot of grapes!!! (or I guess I'm going to be of they ripen all at once...) How does one know if nematodes are present? Just inspect some of the soil? My old house at nematodes in some of the regular plants now that I know what they look like. Nasty lookin things.

The first image is likely powdery mildew. Second image I dont know what it is, but I know its not Japanese Beetle. JB would have a ton more damage you also can see visibly the beetles on the leaves chowing away. Cant miss them...
