thinking about electrical [gray] PVC conduit for roof
Comments (2)I tried that and it did not work. My GH is 12'x 30 using PT wood for the base and end frames. The PVC grey will last but there are no grey PVC connector. That means the sun will rot your tee connector with in one year. Also to PVC white tee connect on the top will have to much tension on it when you make your bows span only 12'. Really gusty winds will cause the PVC pipe to crack through the tee. Also your GH film will melt to it on the sun facing side if you leave the film on during the hot summer days and it will turn an ugly burnt look from the sun. I ended up using ½" emt conduit and love it. I bought a conduit bender and made my bows from that. It is the same price or cheaper then grey ¾" PVC. It works great, has withstood 78 mph winds, 18" snow storm (only about 6" will accumulate before it slides off)and I can hang a one gallon pot between every section (every two feet). It will not sun rot or corrode. I wish I new how to post picture of mine, it would make more sense. That is my experience with it. Good luck to you....See MorePergola / Patio cover needs electrical and speakers
Comments (4)Ours is complicated, photos do not show sufficient detail so I'll try explaining. Electricity - I ran PVC under the pavers, daylighting adjacent to one of the pergola columns. The source is from the sub-panel which also feeds our hot tub but has space for additional breakers. Use wide-turn elbows to permit pulling the wires. Our pergola has two perimeter 2 x 12's to support the roof. On the bottom edge of the outside one, I routed a groove and installed rope lighting. Also have made provisions to install a ceiling fan above the table. All electrical is weather tight, grounded and on its own GFCI breaker. Our speakers are located elsewhere. I wouldn't recommend speaker wires and 110 volt in the same conduit. Our Pergola is about the same size as yours, but free-standing. If you offer more particulars about your build perhaps I can offer better suggestions. Hope this helps....See MoreHow to cover plywood ceiling?
Comments (9)Pat it's called "looking for silver bullets". What people want is not having to put out the effort to describe their project and when they hear project require's work they disappear to go elasewhere and ask. On the electric, appliance repair, hvac forums questions are asked like "how do I,,,,,,,,,,,,",for a project requiring special tools and some experience. When someone tell's them to start by removing cover from breaker box, they ask "where is that located"?...See MoreDrywall Ceiling Beam… How do i cover it?
Comments (3)On the HGTV reno shows, I’ve seen good looking beam covers (U-shaped that slide over ugly beam, drywall, etc.) that have been used. I believe some are lightweight foam. Found this company by Googling faux foam beams at https://foamtecproduct.com/gallery/. I think there are an assortment of options. Hope this helps....See MoreIndependent Living Interior Design
