Need Window Advice

Melanie Salas

I am new to this forum, and requesting advice on my Windows. We live in Connecticut - and have a traditional colonial home. The home was built in 1991, but was built to look more like a historic home.

Our windows are original wood windows, and while they look beautiful from afar they are somewhat of a nightmare. They have individual panes on both sides, as well as a clip in storm window (not shown in the photo). Cleaning the outside requires cleaning both sides of the storm window as well as all individual panes. The windows tilt-in but require brute force to pull them in by pushing out on the side frames, and hoping that you don't break the glass in the process. The screens are a separate insert on the window frame and many are bent, and ripped. We don't use them in the front of the house as they darken the windows so much. They also aren't practical as they aren't airtight with the window frame so lots of spiders, etc. can get in.

We are considering window replacement and could use advice on what style windows will be the best for our home, as well as a somewhat affordable option as we have close to 40 windows!

Thanks!
