downrod size for ceiling fan
Comments (5)How big is your room? Is there a 2nd floor bridge that looks over the great room with the vaulted ceiling? How high are the ceilings in the rest of the first floor? Those are the considerations. We're putting a 60" fan in our great room, which also has a vaulted ceiling with a dormer on the north wall to bring light into the room, as the whole first floor is surrounded by wrap around porch. Because our ceilings in the rest of the first floor are 10' and we do have a bridge that will look at the fan, we are mounting it so that it will be just above the floor height at 2nd floor level. Which I guess puts it about 12' off the floor of the great room. In our last house we put a ceiling fixture instead of a fan, and it was one of those open pan/dome things. One of my sons thought he was cute and flipped a quarter into the dome one day while standing at the rail on the 2nd floor. It took an act of God to get a ladder into the great room to get the quarter out. Since then I'm cognizant of what the fixture is going to look like from the 2nd floor....See MoreHelp Needed w/ Ceiling Fan Sizing
Comments (8)Sabjimata -- Is it the look of that fan that you like? Minka Aire makes one simular to the one you've shown that is a bit smaller. Derned if I can't find it right now. As I live where you do, I understand about wanting a fan in the kitchen. The problem I have now with my fan is that it causes strobing because is is by the skylight -- and when I redo the kitchen I want MORE LIGHTS! and want to avoid the strobe effect. So, I was told by a local store about getting a smaller blade, but getting a fan with a motor that can run blades that are at a 22 degree pitch, versus the regular 14-15 degree pitch. I've attached a link for a Minka aire fan that has a 32 inch width, but has a 22 degree pitch, and is about the same price as the one you've shown. It has the usual ceiling fan design, but if you want air movement in the kitchen, it may fit the bill. I'm hoping that a small white one will blend in with the ceiling. And if you look in the "seen on TV" thread, you'll see that they put a simular looking fan in the foofy house with the oddly placed cooktop. Here is a link that might be useful: smaller fan with 22 degree pitch....See MoreAppropriate ceiling fan size

Comments (2)Choosing the Right Ceiling Fan Size https://www.heating-air-conditioning.org/ When it comes to the right size of ceiling fan for your space, you need to keep proportions in mind. Ceiling fans come in a wide range of blade spans, from small mini fans with a blade span of 18 inches up to large ceiling fans with a 68-inch blade span... and beyond (we even offer fans with an expansive 99-inch blade span!). Choosing the right ceiling fan size will optimize the fan's efficiency and make the fan look right at home in the space. What Size Ceiling Fan Do I Need? Ceiling fans are measured by the full size of their blade span (also called blade sweep), which is the diameter of the circle that you see when the fan blades are in motion. Or, in other words, fan blade span reaches from the tip of one fan blade to the tip of the blade directly across. Ceiling Height Is Important, Too Depending on the height between the floor and your ceiling, you'll have a different selection of fans to choose from. For rooms with tall ceilings, you need to choose a fan that uses a downrod to suspend it far from the ceiling. For adequate air circulation, the fan blades should hang 8 inches or more from the ceiling. For safety, the bottom of the fan needs to be at least 7 feet above the floor. Ceiling Fan Sizes by Room Most ceiling fan sizes are also determined by the room they will be placed in. For example, a kitchen ceiling fan will be much smaller in blade diameter and length than a ceiling fan for the living room. Use the ceiling fan size chart below to get the best idea of what size you need. As always, make sure you properly measure the area where you will be placing your fan to make the best purchase decision.
