Easiest GAS cooktop to clean?

In your opinion what is the easiest GAS range top to clean?

I read: Black porcelain cooktop surface makes cleanup easy, but I also read that Gas on glass is the easiest clean up. Is stainless steel only silver? If I see black is it always painted porcelain? I dont want any chips.

I have a 36" KA cooktop with stainless underneath it and find it easier to clean than my previous JA gas on glass. On the glass, I had eventually got stuff kind of burned on and it seemed to discolor even the black glass. I don't know what this stainless is made out of, but it wipes up easily and seems to be wearing well (only had it about a year, that said, I cook every day).

Induction rules in the cleanability department. And in the not heating your kitchen up 30 degrees every time you try to cook also.

Easiest way I've found to clean the grates (I'm guessing these are pro grates you will have) is to lay the grates in the sink, fill the sink with HOT water and pop 1-3 individual Cascade with Dawn automatic dishwasher detergent packs in there. The larger your sink/more water in your sink, the more detergent packs you will need. Let soak for 10-20 minutes then wipe with a sponge & rinse. For spots that are really stubborn, I use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Kitchen Scrubber (MEKS). I found that the Mr. Clean MEKS also works the best at getting all the grease off the enamel pan under the grates & doesn't leave streaks. I usually clean the pan while the grates are soaking. The soak works great for the vent hood filters too--the grease just melts off!

Have you seen the toothpaste advertisements that show the ribbon of toothpaste folding back over itself atop the toothbrush? The problem you are having is an excess of cleaner on the cooktop, so the clean-up becomes clean-up of the excess cleaner. Speaking of spray, we get Weiman Glass Cook Top Cleaner in the cream form without a spray top; it just drools out of the bottle. Spraying (or drizzling) the cleaner onto the paper towel reduces the quantity of cleaner that gets on the cooktop in the first place. "Windex would probably work better and not leave smearing, but I'm not sure that's safe for high temps." Induction cooktops sometimes get warm from the heat conducted downward from pots above them, but they never get really hot. If you apply Windex to a warm or cool Ceran induction cooktop, you wipe almost all of it away immediately; there is nothing left to burn on.

I often use BKF (Bar Keeper's Friend) and some dish soap on a blue scrub sponge on our Wolf range's black burner pans. For stubborn/baked-on stuff, I spray with Dawn Power Dissolver, let sit a while, and then scrub. I can remove my pans from the range, so I usually do heavy-duty scrubbing in the sink, rinse with hot water, and then dry with a dish towel (ours are the lint-free Flemish Wonder Towels). For minor clean-ups, I can scrub in place right on top of the range, and wipe any soap residue with a rinsed out sponge or wet paper towel. If needed, I follow up with some alcohol-water spray and microfiber cloth or dry paper towel. It took a while to get the hang of cleaning ours without streaks and smears, but once I got it down, it takes very little time to get them clean. There are some really baked in spots, and scuffs, but for the most part they look pretty good.

I have a stainless KitchenAid gas range, and I've become more careful about cleaning spills and spots as they happen so I don't have to worry about razor blades and ammonia (way too much work for a messy cook and lazy housekeeper!) My grates and top are dark, though, and hide many sins. Now if I'm browning meat or doing something that involves hot oil, I use a splatter guard. And if I do see a mark on the grates or caps, I use some Bar Keeper's Friend on them. A year in, it still looks brand new, and I don't mind the instant spot cleaning; the range makes my DH happy. We thought about going with induction, but he just loves flames in the kitchen...what can I say...

I have a 30" Thermador 5 burner gas that I find much easier to clean than the GE 6 burner I replaced. The Thermador has a black top. It also is easier to clean around the star shaped burners.

Stainless top and sealed burners I love my stainless range since all the top grates and burner top go in my DW and the rest of the top is all sealed takes no time to clean it.

Induction is indeed very nice, but it is not so useful in a power outage. Just one of the considerations for us. Every situation is different.
