Ever had Lower Back Pain?
Comments (25)Had a laminectomy 2 years ago to relieve the pressure on my sciatic nerve. Had never experienced pan like that before. Holy cow! Suffice to say that there was great relief after the surgery but, like they say, once something is broken, it's never like new again. The excrutiating, disabilitating pain was gone but to this day my left leg is still numb from my buttock fold to my foot! I can walk without a limp now and am grateful for that. I have terrible days and my nights are the worse but for the most part I do ok. Aleve and Motrin are helpful. I also walk as much as possible (which kills me but I do it anyway) and I make sure I stretch my hamstrings and calf muscles. I was a Physical Therapist Asst. for many yrs. and know that the one best thing you can do to keep your back healthy is to have a strong core. Find a way to work on those abdominal muscles. They support your back. I also know (from experience) that to some of us, abdominal exercises aren't easy to do when your back is killing you! Good luck to you all with your back discomfort!...See MoreSTOP your reno! most important layout tip ever!
Comments (38)Chicagoans, your egg story is as funny as Marcolo's pie weights! (My own ketchup story is just sad, not funny.) For those who've never heard of them, pie weights (which have been around in one form or another for at least a hundred years), beans, rice, or a second pie tin, are put in a pie shell that one is pre-baking to keep it from bubbling. There are some kinds of pie that you make in the raw dough, and some for which you bake the (bottom) crust before filling. From Chef's Catalog:...See MoreWhat is the most valuable item you have ever found?
Comments (20)definately my husband. found him, tatty and discarded, sitting on the curb after he'd been dumped by a girl who wasn't fit to serve him drinks. he's been priceless ever since :) but stuff? I paid a buck for a yard 'and a bit' of relatively modern Fortuny fabric - orange, with a white over-print in a flower-and-urn pattern. covered ten switchplate covers with it for my house, two small photo albums, one of which I sold for $40, the other I gave to the lady who taught me to recognize good fabric...and the remaining yard's worth a hundred bucks or so. paid a buck for a piece of Haegar (?) pottery for a friend - apparantly, the purple and blue stuff is rarer than the blue and green glazes? and this spring, I found a little pen and ink sketch in a pile of much better art work. ugly little thing, of a guy in sunglasses and a loud shirt. thought it looked familiar, paid $10 for it, figuring to frame it for a friend who's a huge Hunter S Thompson fan. turned out not to be such a friend, in the end...but the sketch was for real, and earned me half a mortgage payment....See MoreEver been to a Pain Clinic?
Comments (4)I have and the "epidural" injection was in hospital-like setting. Same for DH. Mine were unsuccessful...DH had relief for a couple of months. Pain clinic however...like visiting an office for shots and meds. Seemed to me there were always 20 or more people waiting for their "hit"...weekly or monthly. I was/am not interested in trials of drugs to find one that might work along with all the side-affects. Aleeve has done damage to my kidneys so now I am sort of out of luck for OTC pain meds and grateful that the surgery has taken away the worst of my back pain. Not running any footraces in the near future~ Nanny...See Morejakabedy
