Funny Christmas Tree Story
Comments (5)Cute story.. That large tree with lower 'one quarter bare'..sounds 'Unique' lol...but when it comes to pets...you do what works! I always found it funny when 'The Tree' was brought into the house for the first time each year. Our dogs did lots of sniffing and checking it out..lots of bewilderment too. It's like - 'Wow' they brought this in just for me! So when we chase them away, it's like - total shock and they become more determined to 'play' with it! jane...See MoreDo you have a funny or awkward Christmas present story?
Comments (28)I have one that is more strange than funny, but appropriate for a decorating forum. Many years ago, just before Christmas, my BIL and his wife remodeled their kitchen, using apples as a theme--dark red and forest green colors. My MIL called and told me that for Christmas she and FIL were buying BIL/SIL new dishes, to match their new kitchen. She described the dishes as having apples painted on them, with a dark green edge band. Then she said, "And we'd like to get you new dishes, too." I was thrilled, because I'd been thinking of buying a new set of dishes to replace our old odds-and-ends, but hadn't wanted to spend the money. I told my MIL this, and thanked her, and mentioned that either a cream color, or a light sage green would look good in my kitchen. MIL: "No, we're getting you the same dishes, with apples on them, because that's what FIL likes." Me: "But, we don't have anything with apples on it in our kitchen, and really, nothing red or forest green." (The kitchen had no theme--it was neutral with cream and tan, and some light blue-green vintage pottery.) MIL: "Well, that's what we're getting you, and I'm sure they'll be just fine." Me: "Um, OK, thank you. That's really nice of you." On Christmas I opened the package, thanked the in-laws again, then used the hated apple dishes for about a year and a half. One day when the in-laws showed up for family dinner, I put out my brand new cream and sage dishes, that I'd finally bought for myself, without saying a word. Neither of them ever mentioned my new dishes. I love my FIL and my late MIL, and that was so out of character for them, it still puzzles me. BTW, I packed away the apple dishes, until just recently, when my DD needed dishes for her new place. She was happy to see the familiar pattern, especially since the dishes came from her grandparents. :)...See MoreSharing a short Christmas story by Richard Paul Evans
Comments (6)Great story,i've both read and seen the movie,"The christmas box". When i was a kid we had one of those player pianos,we used to get on that thing and pretend we were really playing it. Our dad played piano very well, couldn't read music ,but he also wrote poetry and songs, and there are a couple of his songs in the Library of Congress. All my brothers played guitar, and a couple sister, and a few sisters played the piano.Since i've grown up i always wished i had learned to play the piano as well, but i was very young back then. Thanks for sharing this story. Kathi...See MoreWhat are your funny/embarrassing moments in Jr. High-High School?
Comments (34)As a 13 yr. old brand new freshman, my best friend and I, thinking we were cool, decided to skip our first chemistry lab of the year. We had to make up the lab during lunch. During the lab, my friend stood there, mouth agape, pointing at me. I said "what's wrong? Spit it out!" At this point, the chemistry teacher ran across the room and frantically started beating me on the head. I've never seen a teacher move so fast. It is then that I realized I had caught my hair on fire in the Bunsen burner! My coolness rapidly dissipated. I was mortified. This was not how I wanted my first week of high school to go. My eyebrows were singed and my hair burnt. It smelled. I think I had to have it cut. I had been putting a product in my hair to lighten it and I think it made it very flammable. My best friend SWORE not to tell anyone. The next day, I walk into school and the first thing I heard out of someone's mouth, nonchalantly, was "Hi Torch!" And that was my nick name for the next year, to occasionally resurface throughout high school. This same best friend and I were taking advanced placement English. We had to memorize a sonnet and repeat it in front of the class. My friend volunteered to go first. I was sitting in the back of the class. I thought it would be funny to hold a sign up while she recited her sonnet. It said "YOU HAVE SOMETHING HANGING OUT OF YOUR NOSE." She stopped dead in the middle of her sonnet and said "What are you doing?" All eyes turned to me holding that sign. I wanted to crawl under my desk. That one sure backfired! Then there was the time I passed a note to a friend that said I'M BORED. The teacher intercepted the note. "You're bored, huh?" He said and proceeded to pull my desk and chair with ME in it all around the room, out the door and into the hallway, around the hallway and then back into it's spot, while the whole class watched wide eyed. "Are you still bored?" He asked me. I couldnt even answer. And then there was the time in seventh grade as an 11 yr. old that i had to bake something for English class and read the recipe out loud. I wanted to make M and M cookies. My mother refused to help (she was not the best mother, to be honest.). I tried to make them myself. But I believe I mixed up baking soda and flour. The cookies finished and looked yummy, sprinkled with bright M and M's. But they tasted like soap. I was in tears all night and dreading school the next day. I got up in front of the class and read my recipe and passed the cookies out. The kids eagerly reached for the cookies. I really hoped that a miracle would happen. But no, it was pretty sad to see the whole class gagging and spitting out the cookies....See Morejakabedy
