Empty corner and open floor plan decorating dilemas
Comments (5)Part of the reason that the wall looks off is that your console is undersized. And the tv looks a little high as well. If you get the proportion correct the wall will look more balanced. Another issue is the lighting. Overhead lighting casts shadows that give a room a commercial vibe. Table lamps and floor lamps will add a needed layer of light and add a decorative touch to your room. Definitely put a floor lamp in that corner. Curtains, properly hung, will help make the walls look less bare as well. Then add some art to the wall and the space will look nicely finished....See MoreFurniture dilema
Comments (0)We recently added on to our home and there is a transitional area between our kitchen/dining room and our living room and I'm not sure how to furnish it. should I put a hutch there? Or a table and chair? Any suggestions are welcome! (don't mind my kids artwork!)...See MoreWhat should I put under these wall art?
Comments (23)That placement is SO much better! Slide the whole sectional down the wall about 6 more inches away from the doorway, all the way to the window frame. The tv is fine on an angle. The room looks great. Now you have room at the end of the room if you want to add a desk and chair, a small round table with two chairs, or an armchair with a reading lamp, or just keep one tree in the corner. You only appear to have one ceiling light in the whole room. Consider adding a floor lamp to the end of the sectional by the window, where you currently have your tree. It will give you the height that is needed, as well as the light. As an alternative, you could use a metal and glass console table along the short side of the sectional, with a table lamp....See Morebookcase and decor dilema
Comments (27)I own a smaller version of that Ikea bookcase. While I love mine, I think yours is too monolithic for the space. I'm kinda intimidated by all those doors. A lower version of the same thing might work, with more variation in the fixtures for the cubbies, so they aren't all the little doors. Maybe Eket would be a better fit for the room? If you are in Ikea's return span, I think I would return it. Then start over. I actually like Ikea's stuff a lot for contemporary spaces. It can be very creative. I think if you wanted to do Ikea furniture in that space, however, I would go with their upscale stuff. I think it's called the Stockholm series. It also seems you need more friendly lighting in that room. I would have at least one table lamp and one floor lamp. They would also have the virtue of making everything not at the same height in the room. I would choose something interesting, fresh, and less austere to balance out the current linearity. Ikea has many lamps with interesting shapes. Tallbyn? Alternatively, you could think different for a contemporary room. Look forward and think about something like a side table with integrated air filter, or a piece with a built-in speaker. You could very nicely get stereo sound for your TV with a set up like that. Your small table is a side table or for a studio apartment. Larger is needed. Definitely another chair. Think what you want a conversation to look like. As a day to day thing, I would do fewer chairs at the dining room. Remove the one at the end? As is, the dining room is a heavy balance for the living room, and to my taste, has too much out-of-scale furniture....See Moreatromper
