Frame less glass shower door

Hi everyone, we are currently in the middle of a master bathroom renovation and there is one thing I do not know where the best place to get it would be. We have a soaking tub shower combo (20" deep) which is 32x60. Both of the 32" sides have a wall and I want to get a frame less shower door and wall for the 60" side. My contractor has a place they get glass from but they said it would be custom and since the tub we have is a standard size I could probably find it cheaper somewhere other than the place they use. While I would like to save money by getting something not custom I also know that there are big differences in glass quality and I do not want to skimp on quality. I would pay extra not to have to squeegee the shower doors every time someone takes a shower. We also used delta champagne bronze fixtures so I would prefer any metal on the shower door to be similar color. Does anyone have any recommendations where I could get a non custom glass shower door for this location? Or will this not be cost effective and I should get something custom?

I am going to suggest a glass shop, a custom door with Shower GUard. A frameless door off the self somewhere is not going to be the same thing. Up to you I am just telling you what I would do.

I second millworkman as I just finished a bath remodel with frameless shower enclosure with a door.

After research and recommendations, I opted for Showerguard and I don't squeegee. After a shower I turn the hand held shower on the glass to rinse off any bubbles and my looks fine. The only smudge is where my cleaning woman wiped off the EXTERIOR when she was cleaning the glass :-)

I would just go with your contractor's recommendation as he is then responsible for making sure everything is correct and correctly installed. Matching hardware wasn't an issue for me as my hinges, handle and such are oiled rubbed bronze to match the rest of my fixtures. I am sure that you would be able to get hardware that complements your fixtures.

Who's going to be ogling your beautiful (expensive!) tile besides you? You already get to see it when you use the shower...or are you planning to run tours through the master bathroom? You could always leave the shower door pushed open if the expensive view isn't clear enough through regular glass. Besides, after a while, it'll become just like that million dollar view of the Manhattan skyline....you won't even think to notice it. No disrespect intended, but personally, I can't imagine inviting a visitor into the master bedroom, let alone into the bathroom.

How much water will come out of the shower depends on the size of the shower and placement of the shower head. Can you post a picture of the shower layout with dimensions?

I would do regular clear instead of the low iron glass (less greenish). The price isn't worth it and the only time you can tell the difference is when your looking at the edge of the glass. As far as the coating, it's amazing against hard water. You won't have to squeegee every day. Hope that helps, I work at a glass company.

As you've discovered, raw brass hardware is not nearly as common as lacquered as it can tarnish during shipment and while on the shelf waiting to be sold. Any fingerprints on the brass from manufacturing or packaging can be points where oxidation can first occur. Fully clean and buffed raw brass will sell, fully tarnished raw brass will sell, but mottled partially tarnished brass? Not so much. But you can search for it by looking for "living finish brass". It's quite easy to strip lacquered brass. Soak it in an acetone (nail polish remover) bath for a few minutes, then lightly scrub with steel or brass wool. Don't use a plastic scrubby, the acetone may dissolve the scrubby.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to talk to them about at least getting a quote from their custom place. I don't want to spend money needlessly but I also don't want to get a great job on everything but the glass. I looked online at home depot and it didn't seem like their doors would be the best quality so thanks for confirming what I was thinking :)

Stock Hinged Frameless Shower Doors are standard sizes and the "sidelight" or fixed panel are adjustable and in my opinion look like crap.

There are some negative reviews of ShowerGuard and their customer service. Here for example. RainEx could be an alternative.

Matching champagne brass will be challenging or unlikely. You might consider a single door glass screen.
