Design Dilemma Kitchens

Faucet, sink and cabinet hardware

I am remodeling my kitchen and chose a matt black banco sink, I did not find any black faucets so we went with stainless...was this a mistake? The cabinets are Dover white and I wanted to go with black matt hardware, but should the hardware match the faucet or does it matter?

Doesn't matter, pick "use over looks". Stick to two finishes (matte black & "silver") and you'll be fine.

I think a stainless steel faucet or polished chrome faucet is the better choice. You don’t want everything to be black. Think of faucets and hardware as jewelry in the kitchen. If you are wearing a black dress, woukdnt you want to wear jewelry that sparkles against the dress? You could choose jet jewelry, but it wouldn’t show up well against the dress.

I got mine from myknobs.com. I found the pull I wanted by ordering samples from several different places and then looked for an online source that sold both sizes that I wanted. That's why I ordered from them. Have no complaints. I ended up ordering coat hooks and towel bars from them also. I'm not sure on the faucet issue.

My sink and appliances are stainless. My cabinet hardware is aged pewter--not too silver, not too gold. My faucet is brushed nickel. I found that the stainless faucets are more contemporary than I wanted. Also, stainless has a blue cast that is visually cold, while nickel has a yellow cast that is visually warmer. So you may want to do more investigating about the style of faucet you want, which could dictate the color. No photos yet--demo begins soon.

Do you mean oil rubbed bronze (ORB)? What are your cabinets, countertops, and floors? It's definitely possible. I'm sure many have ORB cabinet hardware and stainless appliances (I do). The sink could work, too. There are no hard & fast rules. It just has to all work together!

They don't and shouldn't match, it's too much in a kitchen. Don't be afraid to experiment, you might be surprised at what combinations work in your eyes. I did the same as posted above...went to HD and Lowe's, bought cheap hardware, brought it home, taped it to the cabinet doors and tried different combinations. Not only can you try different finishes but you can try different styles. I then returned everything for a refund. Just don't install them, keep the original wrappers, and be careful not to scratch anything. Once I found the combo I liked, I went online to find the cheapest price. We went with chrome fixtures and brushed SS hardware. I actually found a $6 pull from Lowe's that I liked better than the $25 pull I was going to buy online and saved myself quite a bit of money! Another thing I noticed...depending on how much metal is in your kitchen (backsplash, appliances, lighting, etc) you may find the hardware needs to co-exist with everything but your plumbing fixtures.
