Any of the cleat things you may need a place to remove them immediately once you are inside your house depending on what material covers your floor. They can damage hard surfaces.

Perhaps it was the way I walked but on me the Yak Track things made my feet feel like they were rolling when I tried walking directly down my sloped driveway. Across or angle they were fine and while I never fell going straight down I did not like the feeling. You may need to try several different kinds to find one that fits the way you move.

I wish I had some back when we lived in Oklahoma. I was in several situations where I could have used them. But a tip, if you don't have those put a pair of big socks on over your shoes and you will be able to walk. The fabric adheres to the ice enough to get traction. A fireman taught me that in Oklahoma and gave me a pair of socks so I could walk home. I had to leave my car on the road it would not make it up the hill to my house. I hated ice!

I had forgot about the socks. Look for a pair of coarse knit sport socks that are tightly woven. The loosely woven ones can slip when there are two layers of fabric in them. Men's sport socks should be on sale right now. They sell two sizes one for smaller feet one for those size 12/13 up. If your foot/shoe is smaller some boys socks also have that coarse knit.

You know what would be great instead of socks, remember those big leg warmers? They are apparently back in style. I saw a wall full of them at the new Gordmans store recently. Those would be easy to get on over shoes.

I thought that was the brand you had Moni! I still have some memory lol.

That sock idea is wonderful to know!! It's easy and cheap enough to keep a pair of huge socks in the car and another by the door.

I'll have to try those yaktrax! Thanks!!!!! I have never once heard of using a big sock! That's a great idea and I do have some leg warmers that I never wear! I also have other big old thick socks that I've been hanging on to but never wear! I'll throw a pair in my truck!

Thanks everyone for the ideas! I hate the icy conditions that we have been getting so often lately! This time of year it will be warm and rainy then it will get really cold during the night and maybe snow and that will melt then freeze up in the mornings! It's a bear for driving too and wouldn't you know it, the 4 w/d is in the shop! GAH!

I have these and am very happy with them. I usually use them on a winter clog so I can easily slip my foot out of the shoe to install them and again to remove them. I find them difficult to manage without removing my shoes to put them on. But they never slip and are very secure on ice.

I also have yak trax but they sometimes feel too springy, like they are rolling instead of gripping. I don't think they actually are and I've never slipped with them either.

Olychick, those are similar to the style I have but made better. I have the same sort of cleats which do work but the ones that I have sort of move off center after I walk a while...just bugs me. I like the style of those much better than the ones that I have. Do they stay centered on the shoe as you are walking? What is the brand name of them?

Oh, sorry, I thought I linked them. Yes they stay on and centered as long as you put them on correctly. Never have had any problems with them. I put the toe on and make sure it's centered then pull the heel on and make sure it's pulled up high like shown on the pic. You can also buy replacement spikes.
