When I saws the forecast for the storm, you were immediately in my thought and NOT a third time. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Mud had just dried up here. I actually went to the barn several days in a row in my house shoes! No flooding here...about 40 miles south of Houston, but mud back full force. Bayou up and running, but not out of it's banks.

How scary that has to be for you Raven and all others who had the flooding before. Praying you stay safe. Marilyn, glad you are safe and pray you remain that way.

Has anything been done to make you expect a better outcome for the city *next time*?

That storm dropped more rain here than expected as it came onshore. Hope it moves on quickly for you. The Weather Channel has been broadcasting warnings about it as it plows along the southern states to the east coast.

Hope the rain lets up and that there is no major flooding in Houston and the surrounding areas. Raven, I hope this doesn't cause you too much anxiety and that you feel safe in your current location. Thinking of you.

What is hard to believe is Lubbock, TX has 10 inches of snow today! Unheard of.

We were nice and dry in the new house. The creek crested just below top of bank. So thank goodness it stopped raining when it did. But several other creeks and bayous did go over the banks and they had flooding in those areas.

I don't expect anything to change in this area. The millions of dollars they got to make changes is being used mostly in the city of Houston areas and not so much is allocated for those who are in the country and outside the city. It's a real shame. That's why I absolutely knew we had to move. It will continue to happen. They open the dams and they don't care about the people who are continually affected by the overflow. It's not fair. They should not be allowing builders to build subdivisions in those areas but they are still developing there.

It was so sad last night on nextdoor trying to make the new residents who bought the flood houses understand what they were facing. I asked them did you get informed that the house you were buying was a flood house. Some of them were so clueless.

Amen! I just don't know what they are thinking! Apparently not about the poor people who continue to fight to survive the floods.

Probably some of the people that moved into the flood area had houses there before and were of the mindset that it would not happen again. While I feel sorry for those that moved into the houses that did not live there before I can not for the ones that knew nothing had changed. Each time there is a flood in this area someone will be on tv talking about the number of times they have been flooded before wanting help for cleaning etc.

I had a friend who had property that flooded repeatedly but each time she acted as if it had never happened before. They put their house on a low ridge overlooking the area that flooded and put in a daylight basement right down to the level of the flooding and the first year it flooded eight feet deep in the basement and she as outraged that it happened and I was ?????

I really feel for people who don't know what they are getting into. It is going to get worse.

The reason some keep going through it is because they are locked in and they are not able to get out. That's what we were going through. If you have a mortgage on the house and have flood insurance the insurance money will be sent to you with the mortgage company's name on the check. The mortgage company forces you to repair the home to get your insurance money it becomes a vicious circle. The only way we were able to get out was by using some of our retirement money to pay off the mortgage and get our insurance money directly. That allowed us to buy a new home and sell the other house. We tried to get a buyout but they took over a year to get around to offering them. No one can afford to sit around homeless for a year waiting to see if they are offered a buyout.

Getting out of these situations is not easy. Most people don't have those kinds of funds. We had to make a hard decision about getting into our retirement money. For us it was the best decision. For young people they don't have those options.

I absolutely understand how once you buy into a flood zone all unawares you are seriously stuck. With flooding getting worse and worse finding that you are now going to get flooded repeatedly has to be heart breaking. We have major flooding in our area and over the years developers have somehow found ways around some of the building restrictions. It is sickening to watch. I am not at risk. We live on a hill but sometimes you cant really go anywhere.
