Y'all Had A Happy Thanksgiving? Lotsa Leftovers?
Comments (4)"over-saged dressing? (uh. yes. It's mine.)" In your words Sylvia, SNORK! I guess it was a year for mixed results with dressing. My mom tried a new recipe this year because my brother was recently diagnosed diabetic. We always use my husband as a gauge as to whether or not we will use recipes again cause basically, if he doesn't like it, no one will :). Well, the sister in law's new sweet potato recipe got the thumbs up as did a new pear dessert recipe that I made, however the dressing just didn't pass muster. It came home with me and I don't think the compost pile will have a problem with the flavor. I also scored a bale of straw and a couple of pumpkins that mom had out for decoration. Before we left for mom and dad's yesterday, I had hubby chainsaw down a couple of nandinas that the previous owner planted too close to the house. They had reached all the way to the eaves. I'll be chipping those today. Pretty good sized piles, should make a good bit of mulch. Dang Bill! Maybe you should call your Thanksgiving gathering "Feed the Hungry Fest"! Do you compost your turkey bones? Also, I thought about your neighbor Tom, yesterday. I hope he has family to be with during the holidays. I'm working on plans for a simple hot house for use to overwinter a coupla things I'd rather not keep in the house, but mostly for starting seedlings in. I can't wait to start some of the heirloom tomatoe seeds you gave me. I still haven't decided where to put the melon patch, but look forward to trying the watermelon seeds as well. Thank you both for a good chuckle and hope that all is well with you. Kristi...See MoreGuess What I had for Supper?
Comments (4)River22, Yum, yum, yum. The flavor of grocery-store okra cannot compare to fresh okra. Lucky you! The deer here like okra, so I have to fight them for every pod. Some years they get it all. Some years I get some of it. This year, it is well hidden in the pumpkin patch, so the deer haven't found it yet. I hope you have ripe tomatoes soon. You know, it just isn't summer until you have eaten a juicy vine-ripened tomato! Dawn...See MoreAre You Having Leftovers For Supper?
Comments (8)I made stir fry rice. I used one of the stir fry flavoring packets from the Asian aisle in the grocery store and threw in some ham from Easter, thawed frozen rice from a previous meal. Eggs are a great deal this time of year so I scrambled four of those and threw them in and then added frozen veggies. I've been growing green onions in the window sill. It was an easy and delicious meal mainly put together from foods that might have gone to waste otherwise....See MoreHow Many Are Eating Leftovers For Supper?
Comments (18)We had a casserole with noodles, peas and ham with a white sauce with cheese in, plus leftover cherry pie. This is Glenda's pineapple casserole recipe: GlendaÂs Pineapple casserole 1 cup sugar 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour 2 cups grated sharp cheddar **grate your own 2 (20-ounce) cans pineapple chunks, drained, and 6 tablespoons pineapple juice reserved 1 cup cracker crumbs --I use saltine, but ritz works too 1/2 cup melted butter Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a medium-size casserole dish. In a large bowl, stir together the sugar and flour and pineapple juice. Gradually stir in the cheese. Add the drained pineapple chunks, and stir until ingredients are well combined. Pour the mixture into the prepared casserole dish. In another medium bowl, combine the cracker crumbs, melted butter, Spread crumb mixture on top of pineapple mixture. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown....See More- 7 years ago
