What's your favorite container rose?

There is snow on the ground so I can't garden...it's too early for winter sowing...it's way too early for rose pruning...so basically all I can do is think about roses lol. So what is your favorite rose you have or have seen growing in a container? Do you have a container rose that just looks and behaves wonderfully in your container? I have one rose, Charles Darwin in a huge pot and I am thinking of adding more container roses in the future so I can have them right up close to me on the patio.

I have 'Ballerina' in a pot, and I'm very pleased with it.. it's rambling for me across some railings. I intend to keep it in the pot indefinitely.... this year was only its 2nd season...

..just to show the pot it's in, when I first planted it up...

That is SO pretty. Peter Beales had a wonderful Swany growing in a tree stump! It was so romantic, so I imagine it would do well in a pot. I'm enjoying Clotilde Soupert in pots and I think I may keep them there. Archduke Charles might be another, but not as fragrant. There are probably quite a few Austins that would work. Where are you again?

sammich bags for collecting, then to paper plates for drying, then back in the baggies if there's a ton of seed, otherwise I always save the packets when I'm WSing, so I have plenty of packets to use. I have mailing labels to stick over old commercial packet pictures. Then they either get tossed in a grocery bag, or maybe they end up in alphabetized freezer baggies, or maybe if I'm REALLY good, they go in the cool wooden thingy that my DH made me that has wooden slats A-Z to keep them organized. But it's just as easy to play in a paper bag ;)

what are your favorite shade plants for containers?

I have a lot of shade in my yard so I container grow a lot of shade loving tropicals - and most true tropicals sold as houseplants like the shade (the sun don't hit the ground in the rain forest). Coleus does great - even the sun coleus will grow just fine in shade. There are some new forms of shade tropicals to look for, like Alternathera, Plectranthus and Irisene (Erisene? I can't remember how it is spelled). Alternatheras are most often called 'Joseph's Coat', Plectranthus are 'Swedish Ivy' relatives, and Irisenes are commonly known as 'Blood Leaf'. None can handle frosts so I would wait to buy until May. Begonias and ferns do well in the shade. Impatiens and Torenia will bloom if you need flowers. You might be able to get a pepper to ripen but I've never had luck with tomatoes or anything else in the shade. Just about every else in the world requires some sunshine to bloom.

What is your favorite supplier for flats, containers, etc.?

I got some really great ones on ebay last year at a bargain. They were brand new, I think the seller was herbs-mint-for-u but I'm not sure. Some people sell them used on ebay for pennies but then you have to bleach them. Too much work for me!

I'm in zone 7 high altitude dryish mountain west, so I can grow most roses I believe. Wow I love Ballerina in a container and it's a rose I was actually thinking about trying in a container because I have a spot where I want to plant it in ground in the future but I'm not ready to relandscape that area yet. I was thinking of trying it in a container then either move it down the road or just grow cuttings from it if it's liking container life.

|t's such a lovely rose, and it's still in bloom now actually, quite a few late clusters... you also get bunches of small red hips if not deadheaded... a worthy rose whichever way one grows it..

I like the idea of roses that you don't expect in containers...like I keep imagining if I can grow some OGRs in containers. Lots of them are so winter hardy I could just leave the containers out in winter. I feel like some of the gallicas would be pretty in a pot.
