I've not used it but can see what a convenience, especially for working people. I did use grocery delivery recently and loved it!

We do have it around. I have never used it. I would probably for dry goods, but I do like to look at produce myself.

I agree about using for dry goods but I want to see things like produce, meat, and cheese if it is not the already sliced crap. Not getting out other than go see my husband going grocery shopping is one of the things I treat myself with.

My DD works long hours and has 3 toddlers. She uses it every week, and it is so wonderful for her..

We have it and I have used it. Just at Wal Mart so far and it works great. You should avoid busy days before holidays, for obvious reasons, if you can. But last year, I did order some things for pick up a couple of days before Thanksgiving at an early time of day and was the only person there.

I like to pick my own produce and meat so haven’t used it for anything like that except really simple things like an onion or a few apples or pack of blueberries. Laundry detergent, paper towels, cleaning supplies and things like that are great to order.

There are several stores in my area that offer it but i have never used it. I am retired and have plenty of time to wander the stores.

Ours has curb side pickup and delivery. I’ve gotten delivery once, because I got free delivery so it didn’t cost me anything extra.

I'm in Los Angeles, and so yes we do have it, but I have not used it. Like others, I prefer to pick out my own produce and check expiration dates. My niece in Austin uses it, however, and my sister in Austin probably should because she is not a careful shopper anyway and cannot wait to get out of the grocery store when she shops. She hates it when I shop with her because I slow her down by checking expiration dates (and putting things back that she should not buy and replacing them with better ones). She might already be using it, but she is the perfect person for this service.

Yes we have both pick up and delivery. I have done the pick up at 2 grocery stores and it worked very well. Only a couple of substitutions. I am careful about checking if I don't want a substitution for an item. They have done great on the meat and produce selections. I didn't have any complaints. I spent much less because there were no spontaneous purchases. It is especially helpful to us when the weather is bad. My husband doesn't have to mess with getting my power chair out in the rain. I would like to try the delivery some time soon. Now for a special meal like Thanksgiving or Christmas I want to pick certain things out myself. But for everyday stuff it's great. Some stores have it free others charge a small fee. They have to pay for the extra help. And it says in the directions that you are not supposed to tip.

I prefer doing my own shopping and socializing with neighbors while shopping. Plus, I prefer to choose my own product that meets my expectations. I also shop for a few elderly neighbors who can't get out of the house. So socializing and helping others makes my shopping trip an enjoyable event.

I am now using the Pea Pod delivery service and I really love it. They have given me great produce and meat selections and it is so convenient. I have not used the pick up service but my store also offers that. I really love that the delivery service brings the groceries right into my kitchen and I don't have to carry heavy bags inside any more. My husband has been sick and its a life saver!

I've used Walmart's pick up a lot - love it! They pick out perfect produce for me - no complaints. I usually shop on my lunch hour for odds and ends but a big shop I love to use the pick up service.

Our other local stores are starting some limited free pick ups and deliveries and then they will charge after x amount of times. I hope WM doesn't start charging but if they do, I still might pay it.

We have it at Walmart and Kroger...pick up. I don't use it. I actually enjoy shopping for groceries, but I can see how people with busier lives or other issues would enjoy using it.

I don't use curb pick up. I am retired and don't mind grocery shopping. I do wish it was available when my kids were young and we both were working. Dragging kids through a crowded grocery store on a Saturday afternoon was no fun.

So does anyone get pick up with produce? Do you find it acceptable, good, or rotten?

I have used both curbside pickup, and home delivery. Very happy with both. No complaints at all about the quality of the produce. The curbside delivery staff isn’t allowed to accept tips.

Our small local chain offers ordering and pickup, or delivery. I haven't used either service myself, but I know some who do. It's convenient when you are busy or have a sick child/parent that you don't want to take into the store.

My parents used the delivery service for several years. The "picker" in the store, who took the order over the phone and filled the cart, (you could do it online but my dad liked talking to Victoria), did a great job filling the order. She got to know what kind of ripeness people want for their bananas, if they like their deli ham sliced thin or thick, etc. From time to time she'd add a card for my parents, or a new product that she thought they might like. The delivery guy would put the groceries away for them.

I used Walmart pickup service when I broke my ankle. It was so handy for me to have them load groceries in my car. It was a positive experience with every delivery.

When they didn't have a certain size that I ordered, they automatically gave me a bigger size of the product without any additional cost. One time I was missing an item and they gave me a credit for that item. WalMart will not accept tips for their grocery pickup service.

I'm inclined to use them, except the produce, but maybe I will, so thanks for the produce obtainer endorsements :)

We have pick up and delivery. I haven't used either.

My mom used to have hers delivered, as she didn't drive, and pop had the car during the day (and he frequently worked on Saturday). We would go to the store, pick out and pay for the items, and the store would deliver. She forgot to hand carry the ice cream home once, but only once. :-)

A friend used PeaPod when she lived in MA. She said that they pulled produce and meat from the storeroom, rather than the main floor, and it was very fresh. My local store has shoppers that go around selecting items from the floor, and they have cold storage for perishable storage until the items are picked up.

I know of several people with elderly parents that use it and find it very convenient. The parents call in the order and it is picked up after work and delivered to them. They are pleased and find it saves time and aggravation.

Last year, for Thanksgiving I used pick up @ Safeway. They offered $20 off a $50 order. I did get celery & onions, they were fine. I did notice the in-store sales were different than the online sales.

I use WalMart pick up about 1x a week for several months.

I've never received bad produce. However, if I have a lot of produce on my list, I'll go in the store.

We have a freezer stocked full of beef & venison, so I've never ordered meat, except for frozen chicken breasts.

The only time I've had a discrepancy, there was a package of bacon in my groceries that I hadn't ordered. I contacted the store to pay for it, and they said not to worry.

I've never had a bad experience.

When my brother and I were both recovering from surgery at the same time, and neither of us could drive (an overlap of about two weeks), a friend of his from work who lives close to us did our grocery shopping for us and delivered it to us. She had offered to do this - I had not even thought about having groceries delivered by the store, but of course that is also an option here. She shopped for us when she was shopping for herself as well, and then she drove a mile or so to our house to deliver ours. Our freezer in the garage is well stocked, and I made sure of this before we had our surgeries - therefore there was not much that we needed for those two weeks.

There are a lot of Amazon Fresh trucks in this neighborhood, and so I think we must be close to one of this distribution points for groceries. I am semi-retired, and so I have time to go to the stores. Traffic in my particular neighborhood is never bad, although that was a different story when we lived in Venice (CA). When we had to deal with beach traffic, it was not a pleasant experience to have to go to the grocery store. There was a bike path from our house to one store, but I found it awkward to carry groceries on my bike.

We have curbside pick-up at several stores, but like most who posted I like to pick out produce and perishables in person. I also noticed online ordering prices were higher than in-store and, after reading the fine print, it turns out they mark everything up 10%. Which is fine if you don't have the time or inclination to shop and are able to pay for the convenience. But I do feel badly for older or handicapped people on a fixed income who would really benefit from this service but can't afford it.

As I posted I have ordered produce and meat with excellent quality and results. No complaints at all. Ours has no different prices. But do offer special digital coupons for pick up items.

We have Kroger ClickList and I used it a lot last winter. My Kroger, like most these days, has a "Little Clinic" in it. It appears that people very sick with flu etc come there, and then, as long as they're there, go up and down each aisle, spreading their germs while doing a "bit of shopping". Not taking any chances! Pick up groceries in the parking lot. I think I pay about $5 for this -beats getting very sick.

I know my W has the pick up svc. no delivery yet tho. I can't even find a pizza place near me that delivers! but I'll probably try the W pick up svc sometime.

Anglo, how do you know the clerk washed hands before pulling your order? Or didn't wipe his or her nose while shopping for you? Or sneezed on your lettuce?

While shopping at my grocery store, I've noticed pickers passing their pen from mouth to hand, check off item, back to mouth, pick another product, repeat. Yuck.

Do you tip the service person?

If it were a delivery at my house I would tip.

WalMart pick up doesn't allow you to tip. But they do send you a survey after the transaction is completed. I always make note of the person that brings & loads my groceries and annotate it in the survey.

I've been using delivery groceries for a while now. Aside from the Thanksgiving fiasco, it's been working well. I have another delivery tomorrow but I switched it to attended so they won't be able to deliver to the wrong house! I tip between $5 and $10.

Walmart here does it. I think Save On does as well. I won't use it. I like to pick my own groceries, canned, boxes, fresh or frozen. I want to see the expiry dates. I want to see which head of lettuce looks fresher than the next. I think there is a store that will also deliver your groceries for a small fee, but I would probably only use that if there was no other way for me to get to the store myself.

Brushworks, your question about the employee not washing their hands before picking the order, etc.... I work retail. I've seen more customers pick their nose then touch products on the shelf that were put back on the shelf than I have employees not wash their hands before touching a product to put on the shelf. Common sense tells you to wash all your fresh fruits and vegetables before eating them. Some people wipe off canned food before opening them. Mice do walk over the cans and boxes and if you think there are no mice in your local grocery store it's because you just haven't noticed them or the traps set out by the company they hire to trap them. And I have put my pen in my mouth when I'm working. But it's MY pen. It goes straight into my pocket and at the end of my shift, it gets locked in my locker. :)

Debby, my post was meant to point out that a lack of hygiene throughout the store wasn't any worse than having a clinic caring for the sick.

There's a new Aldi store in my town. It offers grocery delivery, Instacart. Any feedback?

Instacart is the same company that Kroger uses. I think also perhaps Vitacost does too, because I have noticed that they carry the same products (Simple Truth, for example, which I thought was a Kroger exclusive brand) at the same price.

I was about to mention that Aldi is starting home delivery -- that is in addition to our other major chains (Kroger, Meijer, Big Bear, Target, Walmart). Several of those also have curbside pickup.

My daughter used the Meijer home delivery regularly and has been very pleased. She tells me that the shopper will contact her to approve a substitution if possible, and she has also gotten some good sale prices that weren't available in store (a bargain price for lamb, and low price for strawberries, for examples)

I've used the curbside pickup at Kroger twice, because it was free and they had coupon offers for using it that I wanted to take advantage of. It is not something that I will pay $5 to use. Only problems -- I try to use digital coupons and promotions for my purchases whenever possible, and both times I've ordered, they substituted items that didn't qualify for the promotion or coupon. The first time they were sold out of a 2# package and substituted two 12 oz. packages instead, for the same (regular) price as 2#, plus I lost the sale price and coupon for the larger package. The order picker did not know that a pound = 16 ounces. This they made right.

The second time I was buying items for a "buy 5 save $5" promotion, and forgot to specify to only substitute with a qualifying item -- so when the particular "flavor" of laundry detergent I had picked was sold out in the promotion size, they substituted the same "flavor" in a larger size --again I lost the value of the promotion ($5) and also a $3 coupon. Lesson learned -- I need be very specific in the comments about what substitutions are acceptable.

Brush...I use Instacart on average twice a month for two or three different stores in my area and have been for several months. I'm very happy with their shoppers. The one thing I encourage all shopping service users do is to become very familiar with not only Instacart's website but with those of the stores your populate. The first time I placed an order, I entered an order for bananas. I thought I would receive a hand of bananas. LOL To my amazement...the personable little shopper gal brought me exactly ONE banana because that's what is shown on the store's website. Lesson learned!

Be sure to use their "preference" option and tell them if you will accept [or not] any substitutions for the products you have selected. Or how you wish a product to be packaged or size and ripeness of produce. It's important to realize that they don't know you, can't read your mind and aren't familiar with your particular tastes. My shoppers have been very eager to please and are happy to explain the shopping options as well as how to use the Instacart website...so ask questions. You'll be glad you did.

Instacart has been the answer to my shopping prayers. I subscribe on a yearly basis and as long as they continue the excellent service they've given me so far...I shall remain a dedicated member for years to come. In my area they offer delivery services for a pet store, a pharmacy, 4 different grocery stores [including Aldi's] and a wholesaler. I have no doubt that they'll add more as time goes by. They've become very popular and appreciated in my area.

I love to use the pickup service. I can’t drive right now due to hip replacements and I prefer to do the order and have my day pick it up rather than him picking the order himself. It’s just easier and I get the type of product I want. We have the option of allowing substitutions if a product isn’t available. And the store will substitute only with a greater product.. The produce is always good. The only trouble I have is with bulk foods. I don’t often buy them, but it is difficult to judge how much you need by weight.
