RED room White Bookcase need help please
Comments (9)You have extremely nice bookcases, therefore, I would address that issue first. They typically will be a long-term fixture in your home, but paint colors will more than likely change throughout the years. Have you carpenter or cabinet maker or someone put backs on the cabinets. You can always add interest to the back of the bookcases with paint, fabric covered foam boards, craft paper etc. By the way, I love your red walls. But keep in mind, adding backs to the bookcases will give you much greater decorating flexibility in the future if and when you need to "redecorate"....See MoreBack of bookcase color
Comments (7)On a side note, I'll now have the crib later today. I'll never again do a ship to store to save shipping costs. I had other stuff I needed and at the time it seemed pracital. When I got word the crib wasn't going to be in as planned (ridiculous), I made a special trip because I wanted something to work on this week. Now it's in. :) Ha, never again. Back to the bookcase, I like the idea of the Manchester with a different sheen. I have some satin and gloss poly. I still also like the idea of the Hopsack too. I don't want to end up with too tight of a color palette but if it's not done right, I think things can start to look disjointed. I do have lots of books to add the case. I'm excited to get them out. I was trying to think about baskets and bins too. I like the look of the lined heavy weave type baskets but it might be better to get cloth or plastic bins. Still leaning towards adding a fluffy brown (faux) pelt rug to the room but I'll have to see as things progress. Stay tuned!...See Morebookcases and fireplace mantle paint back
Comments (28)Thanks for all the advice, suggestions. I am up for painting the wood. It's cheap pine -- was supposed to be the beautiful white pine on the kitchen cabinets but didn't happen- long story. I'm afraid the coral will look too pink. It's hard to choose a red that works well. Keep coming with ideas and I'll keep thinking. Thanks again....See MoreDeciding on a bookcase - Symmetry vs less distracting lines??
Comments (26)@tqtqtbw Not the dining room but possibly the other joining room. My husband wants to be able to listen to old records where he's writing or we're lounging in that family room. All those green sofa's came w the cottage so those will be replaced w some smaller scale things. I'm not committed to anything in there. I just bought that wooden chair and typewriter at an antique store and the coffee table at a local shop. And keeping the vintage trunk is for firewood for the stove. We want to add a tv but not sure where. Previous owner had it on the short black console behind the door and just closed the door to watch tv. Kinda like having no tv in the house but husband misses his hockey :) Here's a view of the adjacent living room. That's a wood stove in the front left corner so I'm not sure you can put a tv so close to such a heat source - plus I didn't want it being a focal point. It's a difficult layout to get everything I want in there; comfy furniture, not too big or small and I didn't want to block both windows w furniture. We thought of taking the doors of the hinges but we're new to the cold climate here and didn't know if maybe it's good for keeping the heat in the downstairs?...See MoreM V
