Container size for scarlet runner bean?
Comments (8)Sorry to have annoyed you Mavens. I was just speaking from many decades of experience growing Runner Beans. They are the number one vegetable for home gardeners here in the UK. People who grow nothing else will grow a few runner beans. We eat the beans almost exclusively as green beans and do not grow them for the flowers so it is important that they crop optimally. The OP is not in California so waiting for a better crop from an overwintered tuber is not going to help him/her. I truly believe they would do far better giving their beans a lot more room than you have. Runner Beans are heavy feeders and water lovers and putting them in with other plants, although it works to your satisfaction, is not the optimum way to grow them. I suggested the OP look at illustrations on line but if figures are required they can put 6 - 8 beans into a container 18" high and 18" deep. P.S. you mentioned eating the Runner Bean leaves in salads. In small quantities this may not be a problem but you do need to be aware that Phaseolus coccineus should not be eaten raw as they contain a toxic protein....See MoreKitchen trash runner adjustment
Comments (2)Mine did the same thing. i posted a picture of it opened showing the pullout hardware and one of the experts here told me the brand and told me to contact the company. I did contact them and sent the picture and they sent me a couple of tiny pieces to replace. Voila, it was fixed. i no longer own the house and can't find the thread. But, it was just a year or so ago. eta.. http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/3338290/double-trash-can-wont-stay-closed?n=9...See MoreEntry hallway runner - what size/style would fit best?
Comments (3)Thanks, Jan! I just snapped a couple additional photos showing the area at the front entry in relation to the front hallway where the runner is + a length shot of the runner. I measured from the door to the wall where the hallway starts and it’s 72 in. The length of the door across (not counting the molding on the sides) is 36 in. exactly. And the widest I could probably go without interfering with the air vent is 48 in. But i’m afraid to get one too big so that its too close to the hallway runner. shouldn’t there be some space? what’s the recommendation there? I also measured the width of the hallway and it’s 43.5 in. Given those measurements, do you have a suggestion on which entry rug and runner sizes would work best? Thank you!...See Moreneed help with kitchen runner
Comments (14)@kroftygal, From a design point of view, your floors are quite red, you have red brick outside the window, I’d go for an oriental rug that features that beautiful deep red - but I’m (infamously) not a fan of rugs in the kitchen. Now if you’re talking about a Gelpro mat, I’m with you. They make standing at the sink more comfortable, and they make washable rugs that fit over their mats as well. Check them out. My valence recommendation is, don’t get a valance. They block a lot of light, and you don’t need one with such extensive trim. For your counter stools, I’d prefer something lower in profile that doesn’t feature brown wood, but perhaps speaks to the metal accents instead....See Morejess_sterr
