Furniture Design Dilemma living room

Help with living room arrangement with sectional

Hello,

We just finished installing hickory floors in our living room and are now ready to get some furniture. There are 9 ft ceilings. Overall dimensions are 15 by 21 ft (minus space for walkways). A picture of the floor plan is below. I would like some advice regarding floor plans. As far as uses for the room - we would like to have a TV (it is currently in an armoire). I would also like a table for board games/puzzles/homework - but I don't know if there is room for this.

I am interested in this Erica Abbyson modular leather sectional from Costco. One of the reasons I like it is that it is modular and can be rearranged to make new furniture arrangements. It comes with two corner chairs (40Dx40W inches), three slip chairs (40Dx35W inches) and an ottoman (35Dx35W inches). Has anyone had any experience with Costco furniture or this brand?

I think it would serve you well to tape our or cut out cardboard squares and actually lay them down on the floor so you can see the pieces of furniture on your wood floor and hang a mock up of you TV opposite it and get a real feel for how much volume the pieces will take up and so you can see the walk patterns, where the lamps will go, the foot stools and the size rug you will need....start there to see how it will fit the room and then make your decisions.....

Thanks, Susan. That is a good idea. Do you plan about 3 feet for a walkway? I also don't know if the furniture is too close to the front entry - if that will feel closed off. Thanks for the feedback!

It would be better to have empty space near the slider than to have a sectional all the way up to and in front of the slider, or a sectional with a short seating side in the open part of the room to keep the sliders clear. But I agree with others that a sofa and chair is much more functional.

What does the 4th wall in your room look like? Is it possible to rearrange things? Give it a quarter turn so that it is no longer in front of the windows. In other words, one section on the back wall and the other section would be where the TV / console currently set. The TV could then be on that (unseen) 4th wall. I also think the TV is mounted too high.

I never if at all possible choose a sectional for seating two people are comfortable the 2 who got the armrests theres are all lined up like a kids bitrthday party . YOu have no choice on how to arrange furniture ever again. Get a sofa and 2 chairs 4 people comfy and 5 in a pinch and you can change the configuration when you want to.

I have an old bumper sectional from Room & Board that I need to replace and I have been hunting for bumper sectionals too. I have been looking for made in the USA and something equal or better quality than what I have now. Many of the mid-high end furniture brands have customizable sectionals and you have to dig into the specifications to see if they offer a bumper option. I have not yet pulled the trigger on any of them yet.
