My desktop is lost.

No big deal, but lately my PC thinks it is located about 30 miles SW of its actual location. Just curious. How might this have happened?

I'll wager that nothing has happened, and everything is quite normal. Very likely, the "location" you are referring to is the location where your ISP makes it's primary connection to the Internet. My "location" is actually over 100 miles E of my address. It all depends on how and where your ISP routes your Internet traffic.

Interesting. It used to be accurate - down to the zip code, as I remember.

Check in the control panel under network connections for your dial up icon. Ok...done...now have shortcut...Thanks! To get back to your categories click on 'switch to category view' on the left side of the control panel. I used to be able to do that, but now there are the 34 things on a white screen, with nothing to the left of them. I have a choice of seeing them as thumbnails tiles icons list or details when I click on 'View' at the top of the control panel What now brown cow?

Do Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up your Task Manager, click on the Processes tab, and click once or twice on the CPU tab at the top of the listings: this will show what process is chewing up the most resources (which will probably be the culprit). Also, look at the CPU Usage line at the bottom of Task Manager and see what the % Usage is. Then report back here on what you found out.

ten3_2tex, In Wordpad on my Laptop ( Windows 10) I have a Little Blue Square w/Smaller White Square Inside of the Blue Square in the Upper Left Hand Corner. That is supposed to resemble a Floppy Disk. If you Click on that Blue Floppy Disk it will Save your Documents! The First time you should be prompted to Name the Document. BTW, I've never use Wordpad or Notepad, I have MS Office 2007 w/Word. Have no Idea whether or not Wordpad has that Blue Floppy Disk in older Versions of Windows or not? All of my computers are now on Windows 10, so I have no was to check. I do have Windows 7 on 1 computer but I gave my Son the RAM out of that computer. Need to pick up some new RAM for that computer before I can use it again! Hope the above has helped!

No, it was not there. However, I re-installed WLM, and there are all my contacts. I exported as .csv, but I'm having trouble importing full name as well as e-mail address to Thunderbird. I think it's because I don't know how to use spreadsheets (never used Office), so not all the information is transferring. Maybe I can find a neighbor who can help me with this.

My response is just a best guess, since you never mentioned what it is that makes you think that your PC is located 30 miles away. My response is based on the answer I get from "Alexa" when I ask it about my location.

My PC is not located 30 miles distant, multiple web sites think it is. For example, when I try to get the hours of a business, I get the business in that other area. When I wanted to make an appointment with Quest, my PC directed me to Quest in that other location. This is happening across multiple web sites. They all think my PC is located in that other location. Like I said, no big deal, but I wonder what is going on. I don't have Alexa.

If you are on Windows 10 when you go to settings, privacy, location what is the default set at? If it's not right change it. Mary

When I was in Ohio, sites (and advertisers) thought I lived 17 miles away from where I lived.

Here in Florida, it used to think I lived in West Palm Beach (pretty far) but now it's pretty accurate.

The city is correct. The zip code is close enough.

Mary, I just checked my default location and it was in Jackson, WY (I'm on Long Island, NY!), so I just changed it. Thanks for the insight.
