Gry_falcon, what is the name of that bird? I see them occasionally in the neighborhood and am always thrilled.

nhbaskets, years ago, we lived about 3 miles from a small airport just north of Akron where the Goodyear Blimp often docked. It was interesting to watch the crew that actually hauled it down to the ground and secured it with ropes when it came in for the landing.

This is a real stretch - how about a blue bucket full of baby ducks that DH rescued from our pool.

We opened the pool early to have some plaster repair done and one day we looked out our window and Mother duck was swimming around the pool with 11 babies. She had no problem jumping out but the ducklings just couldn't jump high enough and were becoming exhausted. DH went into the cold water and it took us an hour to catch them with a net - they are amazingly fast swimmers and would avoid the net by diving deep into the water.

I think that hummingbird is Campylopterus hemileucurus. We mainly have Allen's hummingbirds here, and they chase off the Annas when they try to visit. A bit further east, in Palm Springs, they have Costas.

The planters I got when Tom passed. I don't care for an assortment of plants in one container, they typically have plants that require different needs. The large one from some relatives have the Hawaiian succulent with big leaves along with a dracaena, peace lily and a bromelaid.

The other from the Ride for Dad has kalanchoes, and one other leafy green plant which I'd love to know the name of.

I want to thank everyone for participating. I never know what my initial post will bring, and I'm always amazed at the shots, the locations, the perspectives, and how people choose to interpret the theme or not. Great stuff and I so enjoy it, each and every day!

Jasdip, yes, now is the toughest time, when the day-to-day reality sets in. I'm so sorry you're having to go through this and hope you can lean on someone(s) when you need to; we are always here! Those are lovely plants you received.

You can lean on us, Jasdip. I know it's not the same as in the flesh humans, but given the different time zones and locations, there is almost always someone sitting at the KT. What sjerin says is true, the flurry of activity that happens after someone dies is over leaving you to figure out a new reality and routine. Don't ever hesitate to reach out at any time.

Awwwwwww...how cute is that!? I had a parakeet as a kid; he was my best buddy and constant companion. Still miss the little guy.

sjerin - DH was my hero that day. The water and air temperature were not conducive to swimming at 9 in the morning. It's a shame we couldn't get a video but it took the 2 of us to catch them. I'd run around the side of the pool with a skimmer net trying to herd them toward DH so he could nab them.

We got the first two and put them in the grass thinking they'd walk over to the Mom. But instead they immediately jumped back into the water to be with their siblings. That's why I finally started putting them in the bucket.

What stunning colors on the various birds.

I don't hear of people having parakeets much any more, but that's a sweet pretty little one, Sealavender.

That parakeet looks like the one that came knocking on my kitchen window one cold windy March day about 25 years ago. I was doing dishes and was startled by the pecking on the glass. When I saw what it was, I opened the window and it stepped right onto the finger I offered it. At the time we were completely redoing the kitchen. That little bird hung out mostly on DH's shoulder all the while he was working with the installation of new cabinets, hammering, sawing, up and down the steps to the basement etc. It was obvious that someone had put a lot of time into the little thing. It would pace back and forth in front of our large bathroom mirror saying "pretty bird' and "good bird" over and over. It would fly to the source whenever it heard running water and try to get under the stream and bathe. Kept it for 2 weeks, trying to find it's owner. Never did, so gave him to a friend that raised and bred canaries. That friend told me often how much he loved and enjoyed that lucky little bird.

I'm sorry I missed this yesterday. I love all the blue! Mine is Fred in his blue blanket which he loved. Miss him every day.
