Paint Design Dilemma living room

Advice on paint color for an eclectic living room.

Hello, I would like to repaint my living room which has a mix of traditional and antique decor with many antique family photos and other art. It is currently a sage green. I am think of a white or linen. The wall on the left has a recessed area that I would like to paint another color.

I like the sage. I can't help noticing the portrait of the woman in pink. It's made me think that a barely there blush might work in this room. If I'm not mistaken, I think I even see a little pink in the area rug?

Here's an eclectic room with blush walls to give you an idea of its effect. I'd love to see another element in the pink family to keep your lovely lady company!

ETA: I probably wouldn't do an accent wall, but if you can show a picture of the alcove, I might reconsider.

Hi! if you want white or cream paint, test the color by painting a strip on the edge of the wall, from the baseboard up 5'- then you'll be able to tell if you like it. For the furnishings, when there's so many styles, it's hard to tell how pretty your things are. Making the cloth table a focal point would be nice. Consider putting the cloth over 2 tables to look like one table - it's hard to have 2 tables look good when side by side, and a larger table would be nice. Move some of the beautiful antique photos here, to place on the table or hang on the wall with the other art. They can be seen here. The alcove is a good place for larger items, like what is on the small table. The mirror is small between the sconces. If they aren't electrified, move them closer to the mirror, and move the paintings now on the right on either side of them to make that table wall more of a focal point The art to the left might fit below the mirror. The idea is to fill up this wall space. If you can't move the sconces, hang 2 art pieces between them. The mirror might go in the alcove. Try the 2 wood chairs on either side of the sofa, and both cream upholstered chairs across from the sofa. If you move furniture & there isn't room for a table between seating pieces, then consider removing a chair or two, and putting them back in the room at the next season. Enjoy your things, but rotate them in and out of the room so that the pieces can be appreciated. Good luck!

One more suggestion-- Fieldstone. Kinda gray, kinda green, kinda blue. I sampled it in my kitchen/family room but I didn't want any blue, so I nixed it, but I still think it's a great color. Can I also second getting a local color consultant to come to visit this very pretty home? I have also had tons of luck calling the SW color line (and its free!). They helped me out of a color jam a few years ago and just recently again. I painted my outside trim SW Fleur de Sel. It was a mistake. It can read very blue-gray. I was heartbroken but it was too late. Now I needed to paint my front door and it needed to coordinate with my reclaimed orange brick and now this odd trim color. My husband wanted a yellow and wanted to pick SW Sunny Day. I about cried. The SW phone line came to the rescue (with no pics nonetheless) and suggested Colonial Yellow. It looks fabulous. They have been so nice on the phone every time. Now I have not had the same luck with BM phone line, but did use one of their local home consultants once and it was a pretty good experience.

Why do you feel you need to consider colors that you dont like? Houses are to be enjoyed by the people that live there. You dont have to be trendy. Personally, I dislike anything tan, or beige, greige or green, so no matter how trendy, I wouldnt use them anywhere in my house. I do like gray, but that gray paint must look gray, and if any undertones, they must be blue, not the purple or green that some grays have. Put colors on your wall, that appeal to you, and that will make you smile. I use a lot of turquoise in different shades, because it makes me happy. Apparently, it makes others happy too, since I recently had someone tell me, they liked coming in my house, and found themselves staying longer than they meant to because, the colors make them happy and make them feel good.

You should paint them the same color, but the dining room will seem darker (more intimate) because it gets less light. Dining rooms are mainly used at night so a dark color is appropriate.

A pink "white" you may like is Benjamin Moore Whitewater Bay (OC -70).

I agree about the pink idea, but your eclectic collection is too randomly arranged to have much impact. Tighten it up rather than spreading it out, and you'll be able to pull off the look and find a focus.

I like the color sage you have right now. No accent wall. You have a very cozy attractive room. I would change the cloth on the table, to either go without one, or one that is more attractive, and some pink, similar to the dress on your painting, for accent, in pillows etc.

Thank you for the suggestion of the pale pink, I think that is a great idea, as you can see the adjoining room is an aztec color and I think the combination will work well.
Manon Floreat , I really love the color in the photo you posted. You know, pink is a color I would never have thought of myself. In terms of the rug, I plan to replace it with something larger , once the room is painted. Sullivan Interior Design , I also like your suggestions regarding making more of a focal point with some of the pictures. I included a photo of the alcove, any suggestions regarding an accent wall or not?

I think your art will stand out better with a deeper color. I would not use white.

After you find more wall decor you can rearrange. Sometimes it takes awhile to find things you really like. Some of what you have now needs lowering.

After seeing you have a different color in an adjoining room, I'd go with a more neutral linen. Maybe pick up the adjoining room color in the recessed area.
