Has has your weather been, and has it affected your garden?
Comments (28)Dry all last year and the beginning of this year (except for a 2ft snowstorm in Feb) until the last week of May when we got a month's worth of rain in 1 week. Alternating cold(30's) then hot (90) then cold (40's) temps in May and June, finally got tomatoes out the beginning of June and MORE rain! Poured for about 20 minutes at dinner last night, weather.com is showing 0 inches but I'm guessing 1/4". More gentle rain overnight, clear this morning and then this afternoon another T-storm. So I'm saying 7.5 -8" this month plus the 3.5" last week of May. Tomatoes are looking sad - I started replacing some yesterday and also planted 6 I'd been holding back. Haven't checked today to see how they've held up in the driving rain (had a couple broken last week). Peppers are still in 6-packs, I guess I can say they're hardened off though they may sunburn when I can get them out, 1 is blooming. Squash looks like it's loving this weather, cukes OK (seeded before squash and they're smaller), spinach is bolting and the kale and Asian greens are just OK. I guess I'll try to harvest mustard greens, tatsoi and bok choy for stirfry mix rather than salad greens since lettuce is so far behind. Carrots are disappearing, lettuce is barely coming in after seeding twice (every time I seed we have a downpour) but the arugula in the mix is getting tall (not bolting yet). Radish bulbs are finally starting to show above the ground 3 weeks after seeding and I don't know what's happened to my chard and beets that I've seeded twice. Beans are doing OK, but I lost 2/3 of my edamame. The only thing I'm harvesting right now that is doing really well is strawberries and they're coming to an end just as market season is beginning. Blueberries and brambles are coming along though....See MoreCleaning a pond which has not ever been cleaned
Comments (4)I've never used salt either. While you clean can you put plants and fish in a separate holding tank? If your water garden is filthy then you're going to be releasing a lot of potential harmful bacteria in the crud mix. I would not stock the golf course's pond if you want to cull the heard. If your fish have disease then leave them be and work it out -- if you must cull the heard I've been told that the humane way (if they're not health so you can't give them to other pond owners)is to place them with some of their water in a bag, one fish to bag, and freeze them. Their metabo shuts down and they go to rest. Good luck. Glad you have the help you need....See MoreWOW! Has this ever been a week that needs forgotten!
Comments (2)Please listen to your doctor or at least look into the medication a bit further. Some antidepressants are used at different dosages to treat other symptoms--they are only truly antidepressants at the higher dosages. They get a bad rap because most people only learn about the side effects that mostly occur at the higher dosages. Here's info about Zoloft from PDRHealth.net (patient/consumer wing of the Physician's Desk Reference online): Recommended dosage for Zoloft ADULTS Depression or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder The usual starting dose is 50 milligrams once a day, taken either in the morning or in the evening. The doctor may increase your dose depending upon your response. The maximum dose is 200 milligrams in a day. Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder Doses may be prescribed throughout the menstrual cycle or limited to the 2 weeks preceding menstruation. The starting dose is 50 milligrams a day. If this proves insufficient, the doctor will increase the dose in 50-milligram steps at the start of each new menstrual cycle up to a maximum of 100 milligrams per day in the 2-week regimen or 150 milligrams per day in the full-cycle regimen. (During the first 3 days of the 2-week regimen, doses are always limited to 50 milligrams.) Panic Disorder, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, and Social Anxiety Disorder During the first week, the usual dose is 25 milligrams once a day. After that, the dose increases to 50 milligrams once a day. Depending on your response, you're the doctor may continue to increase your dose up to a maximum of 200 milligrams a day. Comments (12)I tried the Prep H and it didn't work at all for me. I did some internet research - and there are lots of opinions the Prep H. Some say if you get the kind that has been manufactured in Canada it works, but what is available in the US has been reformulated and doesn't work. I would have to agree with that. I use a cold wash cloth on my eyes to help reduce the puffy - but I haven't found anything that really covers the dark circles well. Some of the better concealers work pretty good. I was watching an infomercial (now you know why I have dark puffy circles - I don't sleep well, LOL) and they had a scar makeup that looked like it did a great job of concealing the dark circles. But I can't remember the name of the product. I must have fallen asleep somewhere along the line :)...See More- 7 years ago
