What oven mitt for 1850 degree infrared broiler?
Comments (9)I don't have my infrared broiler yet... (about ten days more and it'll be live!) but I plan to use welding gloves as I have been doing for all of my high-heat grilling (where silicon also gets way too hot!) I find that Black Stallion makes great welding gloves (for IR broiler, go for MIG rather than TIG, as the former has heat shielding/padding on the back-of-hand part, whereas TIG gloves do not). Stick welding gloves provide the absolute highest heat protection, but are more heavily padded so you sacrifice dexterity there. For you female high-heat cooks, I have recently started using and highly recommend Angelfire (Black stallion's women-geared welding line) MIG gloves and love them. They are a lot less cumbersome than the regular welding gloves, and are nicely tailored to a woman's hand. Be safe... :) Christina...See MoreTo Quilt Oven Mitts or not

Comments (17)I have a drawer full of various oven mitts and I keep going back to the old ones that I have had for years that have holes in them and the stuffing is coming out and every time I run them through the wash there is less of them left but they fit better than any others. There are a couple other types that I would like to try. The Amazing Heat Resistant Silicone Kitchen and BBQ Gloves I tried on the mitt type like this but they are just way too bulky. I have never seen the glove type in stores to try on. Grill Gloves Extra-long cuff Jasdip I had one of those long ones years ago it finally wore out and apparently I got rid of it. They work pretty well for some things. In case anyone wants to attempt to make one here is a neat little tutorial pretty easy too. The Double Oven Mitt (A Tutorial) These from Williams Sonoma actually come in sizes from small to extra long. Euro Oven Mitts...See Moreheart shaped oven mitt pattern
Comments (4)Go to the Sept 23 post on "Heart shaped potholder" & she has 2 listed. I kinda went by looking & my hand & made a pattern. I had cousins visiting from out of state & one wanted one for a co-worker & we didn't have time for a pattern to be shipped. My pattern worked fine. We did the lady bug & took red fabric & made the black dots with a "Sharpie" pen. I am thinking of downsizing the idea & not making a pot holder but some Christmas ornaments for the lady bug lovers in the family. I think a tree full of red lady bugs would be cute....See Moreravencajun Zone 8b TX
