They are all one-size, far as I know. I prefer plain old hot pads, about 8" square. If they aren't too stiff. they work just fine.

My stepmother buys good quality terrycloth towels, cuts them up, folds the pieces double and hems them around. Best potholders I've ever used. She makes them a generous size, so they can be folded in half and still protect your hands, for those times you're lifting something very, very hot like an iron fry pan you were drying on the stove and forgot.

I have fairly large hands, so mitts fit well enough, but my problem with store bought mitts is that they just don't seem thick enough, or if they are so at first, they thin out with washing, and sooner or later I get burnt through them.

I purchased oven gloves for use with my Solar Ovens because of their increased dexterity over a mitt or hot pad, and never looked at an oven mitt or a hot pad again. They are absolutely WONDERFUL!

I have rather small hands and hate those big mitts! At BBB, I picked up Calphalon potholders that are cotton with silicon stripes. They are too small for my husband and he was concerned that they didn't offer enough coverage for me. They do!!! They work well for small hands!

Another view. I have the gloves, tried them and gave them to Goodwill. It takes some work to put them on, instead of just grabbing a potholder. I am sure they work well, but they are also a PITA for some of us.

At the restaurant we used to order sized oven mitts for two of our very petite baker assistants. They weren't pretty or cheap, but they fit and lasted a long time. Maybe a restaurant supply would have them.

I have to confess, I still make the potholders with the weaving loom they have in the kids hobby section. Some of my friends love them, so I make them some as well. Just throw em' in the washer if dirty. And they are nice and thick. But I also like Rachael's idea of cutting up some thick towels and sewing them together.

I have small hands and the old fashioned quilted padded mitts have worked well except when drips soak through. All the ones with silicone are either too stiff, awkward or too long for me. Plain potholders often work best if thick enough, so making my own works best and I pitch as soon as padding gets thin enough to let juices through. More often than not I may just grab the nearest tea towel bunched up.

I have two ancient oven mitts that I'd love to replace but cannot find them anymore. They're thick (but not too thick) terry cloth, have a design of a covered casserole dish on one side (it says Oven on top and Mitt on bottom of the casserole); on the back it says Ritz. They fit my small hands perfectly. I used to see them everywhere back in the 80's. I wrote to Vermont Country Store to see if they could track them down but no luck. Someone told me to look online - but those Ritz mitts were not the same. I've bought new terry cloth mitts but they're too inflexible (my old ones protect me from the heat but I can grasp anything). And, these mitts measure 7-1/2" x 6-1/4"...nice and small :) I'm taking very good care of them until I can find a replacement.
