I like kitchen gadgets and noticed the same problem. So I purchased leather oven mitts from a cooking store and they fit!!!!!

Pot holders are easier for me.

I like pot holders better too... but the size, I am guessing they are big, cause small hands fit in to a big mitt better, than big hands in to a small mitt?

Ove Glove! Best thing ever!

I got one as a gift, and went back and bought another so I have a pair.

They still may be a ltitle large on a small hand, but they are so much more flexible and easier to control. They also have little silicone strips on them now, so things don't slip through your hands.

They are so much easier to use and safer than a stiff oven mitt.

I found a much smaller mitt for $1 at the Dollar Store. Fits way better than the $6 item I got in a a home goods store. I guess it is still big though for a small hand.

I got mine from bed bath and beyond. My hands are narrow but normal length. These have a sticky grip to them but my hands don't get lost in them. I also like them because the thumb is in the middle which is how you grip things anyway. They are made by Ritz

I have lots of mitts, pot holders and even a pair of OVE gloves, but I always use the dish towel which is often damp..lol..so I've learned quick hands..lol

My husband uses the OVE gloves when grilling. He tells me I should use them...but then I'd have to take the 10 seconds to put them on..it takes 2 seconds to grab that towel..lol

And I've found some pot holder mitts to be way to small..especially ones that come in a "kitchen" set with dish rag and towel.. So maybe look for one of those sets.

So I don't burn my wrists or forearms? I always hit those when they're not covered. No thanks for towels or pot holders for me!

I hate oven mitts! I feel like I have no control with them. Pot Holders!!!

If the towel is too large - dish cloth ... two if one's too thin.

Sometimes when I have a bowl in the microwave, covered with a saucer, I drape the dishcloth over the top, with the corners hanging over the edge on opposite sides.

Yes, I've also wondered why on Earth they make mitts and some potholders so darned big?? I understand the need for thickness, but not such a huge area.

Oven mitts are big on me too. I usually use pot holders that have the pockets. Sort of a combination pot holder/mitt.

I also use oven mitts. I hate that they are priced individually, so it's double the price. They're also not as thick and heat-proof as they used to be, made of cheap fill.

I have one in the oven drawer that was given to me, and I haven't used yet. It's a long piece of material with pockets at either end for your hands. It wraps around the hot pot or roaster so that you don't burn your arms.

The heading of the post made me laugh, I've thought the same thing so many times. They're not only big but they're almost ugly.

I have a drawer full of various oven mitts and I keep going back to the old ones that I have had for years that have holes in them and the stuffing is coming out and every time I run them through the wash there is less of them left but they fit better than any others. There are a couple other types that I would like to try.

I tried on the mitt type like this but they are just way too bulky. I have never seen the glove type in stores to try on.

Jasdip I had one of those long ones years ago it finally wore out and apparently I got rid of it. They work pretty well for some things. In case anyone wants to attempt to make one here is a neat little tutorial pretty easy too.

Euro Oven Mitts

I have 3 oven mitts. I use 2 of them - one more than the other depending on how hot the pan is. The third, the prettiest - is a joke. It appears to be well made but when I tried using it I might as well have just picked up the pan with my bare hands. Of course it comes with a matching and equally useless potholder. My hands are not particularly large so I know what everyone means about the oven mitts being too large.
