New to SFG - would love feedback on my plan
Comments (2)Your tomatoes will be verrrry tall, even the cherry types, so you need to have them along the outer north row so they can't shade anything. Are your peas bush peas? They do have them I know because I got some this year. If they are vining types, again, they need to go along the outer row with the tomatoes so they don't shade your other crops. In other words, use your north outer row for all your tall vining crops. When your other crops need shade, you can cover them with double layers of cheesecloth over wire clothes hangers formed into a curve over them to extend their season, the lettuce, spinach and radishes especially, which will go to seed in the heat eventually. Good luck and enjoy it. I began in 2009 and so look forward to the new season each year. I learn something new all the time....See MoreCould I humbly ask for just a little more feedback on my plan?
Comments (1)You house isn't screwed up since it is what YOU want. Any suggestions I would make would not fit into YOUR plan (like no master bath access from the kitchen....). It is your house, and you know best....See MorePlease give feedback on my plan
Comments (28)kayl - I'm anxious to hear how you like the KA refrigerator. I was leaning toward their FD, but this will work better. I guess I overlooked it because of the one review. bmore- You and I must think alike! Your pantry in the corner is a feature in my current plan, and I think you duplicated the rest of my current layout in you earlier post. Anyway, I was going to elimate the pantry because evryone told me it made the kitchen feel small, and because I was planning to convert a built in bookcase around the corner in the FR into a pantry - it will be 3 ft wide by about 2 ft deep. My "new" bump out is smaller than the old pantry (which came out to the edge of the wall where the nook is), and I'm hoping the open counter space there will keep it from making the kitchen seem too much smaller than it is. One thing I should mention about the new bump out - it is really more of an upper bulkhead and not a full height wall. My plan is to use mostly full depth cabinets on the bottom -I plan to have a double trash pullout next to the bar sink, and then a bank of drawers. Around the corner and across from the refrigerator, I hope to have a speed oven mounted just above counter height, but pushed back into the bump out to leave some counter space in the front. Under than I may have more drawers, or possibly a set of refrigerator drawers for beverages (also recessed into the bump out). Obviously some of the cabinet near the corner will not be full depth, but I should be able to get at least 21" in depth. The area that wraps around the bump out is really important to me as a beverage/snack area. It is where I will keep my coffee maker, grinder, and toaster. And it will be where the kids (hopefully) will fix their snacks. I would love to figure out a way to incorporate a sliding backsplash where they items could be hidden away (into the bump out space) when we entertain....See MorePlease give me feedback on my Cabinet Plan
Comments (4)I think the layout looks good but have a suggestion for the MW cabinet. Someone... a long time ago on here... put a hinged piece (like a piano hinge) that flipped up where she could store flat pans. So imagine you MW opening being the same as it is now, then what looks like a piece of molding that would be about the same depth as the hood molding piece, and then your doors would align with the other uppers. It was a brilliant tweak. I wish I could remember who it was....See Morequeenvictorian
