The topic of glazing white or cream cabs comes up a lot. I did an intermit search for this site and 'glaze white' and found many threads. I'll link one below. IMHO, they aren't easier to clean. To me they just look dirty all the time anyway so it's more difficult to tell if they ARE clean. I painted and glazed the original cabs in my house when we moved in to cover the horribly dark 70's finish. It was difficult to tell when they were a little dirty. If I forgot to clean on a regular schedule, they were nasty gross when I discovered the dirt and dust. My new cabs are white without glaze. The dirt, dust, and spills show easily and are easy to clean. I love knowing the cabs are clean. I'm very happy with my new white cabs! We have Giallo Ornametale on our kitchen. The perimeter cabs are cream with a brown glaze and the island is brown glazed sage. This is obviously a pre-move-in pic. It's a pretty light color, so it isn't too stark a contrast to the cabs, but it isn't very dramatic. If given the option again, I would have chosen Tropic brown like we had in our last kitchen.

Thanks for the input everyone! We would be doing a similar shade in cabinet paint to the trim paint--both would be shade of white. The trim will be a SW Linen White to match the interior windows--this is not a standard color they carry, it is apparently a special formula they make for Pella (the interior of the windows were pre-painted at the Pella factory). There will be at least 2 places in the kitchen/breakfast/great room area where trim and cabinet would be right against each other, and probably a similar amount of spots in each bathroom. So, I'm thinking from your responses and, given my answers to your questions, I probably should try to match the trim and cabinets--if we do an off-white shade on the cabinet. ontariomom, it's interesting that you feel glaze is not as timeless--I've thought the same thing about the gray, beige, green, etc. painted cabinets that seem so popular right now. My husband and I both really love the weathered or aged look that glaze provides. We did it in our last remodel and were very happy. However, I've heard others in addition to you mention that they feel glaze is not classic or is "out." So, I'm going back and forth on doing what we love (glaze) with chance it may look dated relatively soon, trying a painted "color" cabinet such as light gray or beige, or doing a painted off-white cabinet with no glaze. tcufrog, I'm trying to work with the cabinetmaker to get sample boards, so hopefully that will help the decision!

My fiancé and I just bought a house that were starting the remodel. The previous owners had a completely different style than us and were trying to make the house look more modern and clean. The kitchen was redone about 8 years ago and is in great condition but the style is just not what we’re going for. We were going to repaint the cabinets white but have since learned the repainting this kind of cabinet is a serious job and we just don’t have the time or money. We’ve decided to live with the cabinets and change some of the other aspects of the kitchen to hopefully offset them. What would you suggest we do with this kitchen?! What floors/paint/backsplash? We just got all new stainless steel appliances. Any advice would be extremely helpful because we’re stuck
