Growing Succulents Indoors
Comments (3)Cindy, My favorite indoor plants are Euphorbias, some such as francoisii, neohumberti, decaryi and more don't need direct light. A bright lit room is a plus but you can supplement with a house lamp. Most of my Euphorbias sit on a table near a window under a three bulb lamp and do very well. Just be careful not to overwater. Well draining soils are a must. Doing a search for succulent soils on here will reveal excellent advice for you. Zamioculcas zamiifolia (ZZ plant) is a great apartment plant. Survives low light. Don't let the temp get below 60 and do not overwater. Fairly easy to find at the big box stores. I am sure lots of good ideas are to follow. This forum has always been a great source of info for me. Comments (9)Coconuts need lots and lots of light and heat. They will not die just because of a few nights of cool weather, but they will languish or die if they have to live in day after day of weather like, say the coastal areas of San Diego where it's never frosty, but never really warm either. Many houses are like that too. If you think about it, you never see mature coconuts in San Diego, even with its mild, but clammy Pacific coastal environment. On the other hand, coconuts do well in Miami, even though it occasionally suffers from some really nasty low temp jags that are lethal to some ultra tropicals. They don't need great soil. Think about where they come from. Beach sand is NOT rich soil. One other consideration is that if you are successful, your coconut will be a disposable item, as they really do get quite big. When the thing is just starting to show a trunk, the crown can easily be 20 or 25 feet across, so you might want to be careful what you wish for! Anyhowz, good luck to you! Coconut palms, IMO, are truly beautiful for the way they look and the sound their leaves make when the breezes stroke them....See MoreIndoor Grow Light

Comments (19)purslanegarden - I had the specs on my lights when I bought them but don't recall them now - I know they are sufficient to grow a variety of plants (I bought the setup from a place that sells cannabis supplies) - and as I said I do grow many indoors under grow lights - my lettuce are the only ones that suffer. I didn't move the lettuce from germination to now - maybe that;s the problem. They were probably 6 inches from the lights at germination. LoneJack - thanks for the info! I figured out after a couple of people mentioned Johnny's seeds what it was - I hadn't heard of them before - I am new to growing from seed. They are pricy - i will definitely buy from them once I am done with my current seed stock. I would like to buy onion starts from them though!...See MoreCindy Stewart
