Can they have white chocolate? I don't believe that has any real chocolate in it at all though if it's a severe allergy there might be some cross contamination from the processing facility.

Does your friend like carob? I think many people dont so it might be worth checking before going through all that trouble. You sound very considerate!

I’ve used it in cookies. It definitely doesn’t taste as good, though. Personally I wouldn’t make cookies with carob again, but you may find you like the taste. Try some, and if you like it use it.

And yes, it will work, but the taste is weird.

I would do the separate batches. There are some that are allergic to locust beans, carob. Most carob chips that I have seen do not melt. Then there is the taste and texture difference for real chocoholics.

For me, there is no substitute. I'd prefer something real without chocolate rather than a wannabe...of course, then again, I'm not invited! :)

So many cookie recipes, so little time. You certainly don't need chocolate for cookies.

We're not the ones to ask. The person with the allergy is the one to tell you if they like them or not. Maybe they like peanut butter chips or butterscotch chips, or the bars just without. My crystal ball is a little cloudy to read their mind on it! :D

I think Carob is a blight on humanity, a false promise, an evil twin, but someone must like the stuff for it to still be around. I would ask first before I wasted perfectly good ingredients on Carob.

Carob is foul. I would make the bar cookies with chocolate and a non chocolate dessert too. White chocolate is okay for some with chocolate allergies,but not everyone. Seriously though, no carob. It's just wrong. It doesn't work in anything.

Make a non chocolate yummy cookie like Ranger Cookies. My family loves them.

Hey, I make chocolate chip cookies without chocolate chips. One of my sons can't have dairy, so I made him some and some with chips for everyone else.

Well, I really started something. At least 5 out of 15 love the ones without chips! I must confess I like them better too!

Do NOT use white chocolate for a chocolate allergy sufferer....use the carob...she'll be fine with it.

The bar cookies are a tradition started many years ago. I may try some carob as I do enjoy some different tastes. Chocolate though I like it gives me a headache.

Ava and others that have a problem with chocolate. Back when it was difficult or too expensive to purchase premade chocolate most cookbooks had substitutions for various things. The substitution for chocolate was oil and cocoa. You could use any type of oil to mix with the cocoa. If you have no problems with this mix your problem not with the cocoa but with something used to make commercial chocolate. While you will not be able to have chocolate chips or anything made with a chocolate bar this allows a couple that I know of to have various chocolate desserts that they make using this mixture. For things like puddings one of the people treats themselves to the highest grade butter rather than their regular cooking oil.
