Please suggest cabinet & counter color; here's my kitchen pics
Comments (59)I'm open to streamlining some of my dishes, mugs, etc. However, my immediate concern is about the fridge, and how goofy it might look sticking out on the new wall. My current fridge is 32" deep. I paid $800 in 2006. I really want to get a much bigger one with the freezer on the bottom and the french doors on the top. I feel like I got my money's worth out of it, and will find a good home for it. I will have to masking-tape out the counter & fridge. I really want more freezer space (that's why I'm open to getting a new fridge). I even considered a small separate freezer but the smaller ones are not automatic-defrost, and I don't want to empty it twice a year, and deal with the water (not having a drain). As mentioned above, maybe a fridge that doesn't extend too much beyond the counter might be better, but I'm not sure how much more freezer space that will give me. I need to research how much capacity my current one is for reference. I looked through it's manual but don't see it referenced. I also need to use the ikea configurator and fully populate the space, and see how much room I want to allocate to trash in the corner. Thanks again for everyone's interest and great ideas! Comments (3)I'm having a hard time finding the details on this - how does it work? You get a "kick back" in the form a gift card for buying kitchen items? Any rumors about time frame?...See MoreIKEA Kitchen Sale 2018?
Comments (170)I got 20% off (tiered, based on amount only) in summer 2014. We did happen to buy one appliance, a dishwasher, but it wasn't required to get the full discount. It was also the last year before they switched from Akurum to Sektion, which may have had a lot to do with it. I haven't watched *every* sale since then, but I have been pretty aware of most of them, and have purchased during sales twice in the last two years, since we moved to our new house and started renovating. It has maybe hit 20% once, but if it did, it was with gift cards, not an instant discount. And I'm not totally sure it did, to be honest. I think 15% is about as high as they seem to be going now. No appliance purchases have been required in the sales I purchased, though. (Summer 2017, and again in fall 2017, when we got a retroactive price adjustment for quartz countertops we purchased in Sept.) We purchased more for our final project just a couple of weeks ago, and will be hitting them up for another price adjustment as soon as the sale starts. Comments (11)If you have a good layout, changing out cabinets for new cabinets does not have to be break the bank expensive, especially if you do not need custom. Many of the home center stores carry good quality, made in the USA cabinets. They are less expensive because they come in standard sizes only, rather than being custom made. We had the same problem 20 years ago - cabinet doors falling apart and falling on the cook - that would be me. We also thought we would be moving in 5 years - we didn't, so keep that possibility in mind. We used Medallion and they are sill in fine shape. I've also used Shrock with good results. There are often different levels within a brand - don't go with the cheapest. I don't know if Ikea is less or not. The cost of removing old cabinets and replacing with new without moving plumbing or electrical is doable. If your layout is not good, see how much it would cost to improve it. Since you don't have a picture, I can't tell. The biggest problem I often see is stovetops on small islands - hard to vent and difficult to cook at - something like that would be best moved to the perimeter. If laminate counters are the standard in your area, that is fine. If you do go with a laminate, but want to have an interesting sink, the Kohler Vault is a stainless steel apron front sink that has a version that can be top mounted. It is a little more than a standard stainless under mount, but might add a bit to the kitchen if that is your style. Home center stores have kitchen sales frequently - like every 4 to 6 weeks, so don't feel pressured into making a decision because the cabinets are on sale....See Moretownlakecakes
