Comments (4)I'm not nuts about gift baskets. When I get one, all that I think is how over priced they are. When we've gotten them in the past it was stuff no one usually eats. Having said that; we get different ones each year from my MIL. Last year & the year before she sent Harry & David fruits which ended up going to friends & compost. Last year's had pears which no one eats. Another year it was a few assorted fruits plus chocolate which gotten eaten more but still wasted. One year she sent ribs which we did eat. I'm not sure where she got them from. Is there a local pizza place he likes? Having a pie delivered to him might go over really well. You can also add a few sides like wings, mozzarella sticks. If he's into sports, perhaps something to do with his team. My hubby likes Dan Marino, he has an online store. If you could find one with quick shipping, it would get there in a few days....See MoreMore Gift Ideas Needed: Gifts for Good Friends
Comments (33)We had the same problem for years. We have a group of seven couples (all close in age). We would take trips together once every year or so but during the year we would take turns hosting a monthly dinner. Of course this always necessitated a hostess gift. All of us are comfortably off and at our age have everything (material) that we want or need. It drove me crazy because I was constantly being gifted with craft type items. I am just not into cutesy things and I had a difficult time coming up with items that I thought the other ladies would enjoy or use. I failingly ended up giving food items or fresh flowers. We all finally came to a consensus that we should stop doing hostess gifts and at Christmas put funds together to donate to a charity. Thank goodness! The pressure every month is off and we can give to those in need. It's a win/win....See MoreGift basket ideas for surgery recovery
Comments (37)Please excuse the hijack anitamo. Those who have been through this know. You "handle" it until something pushes a button, which anitamo's post evidently did for me, especially Pal's link to the soft caps as I was talking about that with my sister the other day. I so appreciate the support, ladies. I'm super private as I believe it's impolite really to burden others. Everyone has problems, tragedies and crises in the course of a lifetime -- no one needs anyone else's. I believe in sharing the happy stuff -- I put up 2 favorite recipes on a new thread mtn started. Both really delicious. I've always had a very high stress tolerance and have an ability to thread my way through chaos. But losing younger siblings is a killer even when you're not close. My next younger brother passed suddenly 4 years ago. Now my sister is sliding away. It's like standing on a large island that's your life/family history and watch huge chunks fall off. I don't mind it changing me. I always have been lucky and I'm blessed in so many ways in this life. But my sister has had much to overcome and not a great deal of happiness. The idea that she must go so early and with so much pain and disability seems really cruel. Enough. Thank you all for your good thoughts and prayers. Big hugs to you. I so appreciate the empathy and support. It really helps....See Morenosoccermom
