Slider doors - screen on inside or outside?
Comments (28)Found this thread because we are being irritated by our sliding screen doors installed on the inside of our newly constructed home. Like others, I had never seen this and was going to complain to the contractor that they installed them backwards. Apparently not. But the screens inside are just plain stupid. You have to open them to grab and close the glass outer doors, which is inconvenient and also lets the bugs in while you do it. If you have the screens only partially open, there is a large gap left between the glass slider panels and the screen panels that mosquitoes and flies can fly right through. So the glass panels have to be 100% open (and perfectly aligned with the screen door panels) to avoid any gap. What if I only want to have a little air on a cool morning, and not have to open the doors all the way??? I tried leaving the glass doors partially open last night (screen doors completely closed, but again, there’s that gap); guess what??? I have mosquito bites all over my FACE this morning. We live in Baja Mexico so both hurricanes and bugs (especially mosquitoes) are an issue, but I think the clear choice is put the screen doors on the OUTSIDE. Hurricane protection is dealt with in other ways that would also protect the screens! And BTW I also grew up in Hawaii and have never, ever seen screen doors installed on the inside of sliding doors. It’s incredibly stupid....See MoreFour 4' wide glass sliders?
Comments (9)ok - here's the deal. Depending on your glass choice - you may simple run into size restrictions. I have a 10' x 16'4" opening in the front of the house. The triple panes I am using were limited to about 7.5' x 8', so my assembly there is 4 pieces. If you get a 10' tall section that moves, you'll have to have it broken into sections is my guess (depending on how many panes) I have seen a LARGE slider - maybe not that large - but I think that would be VERY cool. The tall / large sliders, are, IMO, cooler than the larger humber of vertical elements. But again - the windows / frames should have a pattern of repeatability and I would not use any of these set ups if it didn't relate well to your other windows....See MoreSlider door - 2 panel or 4 panel?
Comments (8)Both 3 panels look fine, it depends on how much of the view you want to see. Unsolicited advice; buy a "heavy duty frame" screen door that comes with much better rollers. The standard screen doors that are included don't last very long....See MoreMarvin 4 Panel French Slider
Comments (13)@latifolia for my Essential line Windows right now it is 9 weeks. I actually had to order 3 windows for my present house and they said 9 weeks. I don't know if the time is longer for the Elevate Line for the 4-Panel Sliding French doors. I put a call into one of the ladies that has been helping me so hopefully, I will something hear soon. They are just getting walls up (hopefully before we get more snow) so I am thinking I will have plenty of time Ha Ha. The bad thing is--the windows I have ordered for my present are a test for me to see the difference between Low E2 with a gray tint and Low E3. My neighbor has Low E3 and her windows look much darker than the Low E3 sample that I have....See Morechisue
