Is our house not "grand" enough to pull this off?
Comments (31)Corinne, I agree with the others about that entryway not being especially appealing to me personally, but I *love* your sense of humor about yourself, and think you seem delightful! I also agree with the stair risers idea; that could be really fun, and you could have your shiny glam paper there without it being overwhelming, especially if you leave the rest white with just some shiny accents like the image Beverly provided. Decoenthusiaste's images are also lovely, IMO. And you have those cool stepped walls to the right of the door (when you walk in); maybe, if your heart is set on paper, paper *one* of those "steps?" I'd do the second one. So when you walk in you see the stair risers, but have a plain wall to your right; then when you take a few steps in, boom, there's a section of shiny paper that matches the stair risers. It's not overwhelming but it's there, just as an accent to the cool shiny silvers, mirrors, and glass; opulent but not overwhelming. And if you decide you hate it eventually, it's easy to take paper off just one wall section. (Tip: mix liquid fabric softener and water in a spray bottle to soften the glue. It works and it's cheaper than the expensive glue-removal sprays they sell. Plus it smells lovely!) Best of luck to you! Remember, it's your home, and it should be what you want. Comments (20)I think I would also move the TV to the 9'3" wall as Barnes Custom Builders suggested. I would then move your couch to the 5'11" wall (pulling it away from the wall so the vent can function). Then, I would flank the chunky chair to the left side of the couch. I would purchase a TV credenza and mount TV above. I would then fill the previous TV location with a credenza with a lamp and a mirror. I would also get a single large piece of artwork for the 11'9" wall. I would get rid of the bent wood chair as you suggested. Here's an option for a rug, credenza, media console, lamp and mirror... Comments (78)The more I think about it, the more I like the idea. The principal (or the head of the guidance department) will know who is trustworthy, and they can tell you what is a fair wage too. They can even email you photos of bunting decorations for their proms, etc decor and tell you who the students were who were on those decoration committees that might be interested in looking for work. This would not be the right time for you to fall off a ladder, or strain your back from overwork. This would also be helpful for you for later on too, as you might find the strong young man with his friends to rearrange your furniture (for a higher wage) as you change your mind a few times, to mow your lawn, to shovel your snow, and maybe even do some of the gardening. (Just be sure to check the location of the in ground irrigation, the water lines and all other utilities and clearly mark them before you give anyone a shovel.) The energy of older teens is awesome, and their work ethic and ambition should be encouraged, too....See MoreWill it be possible to pull off a two tone in this kitchen? PHOTOS
Comments (211)Hi Beth, absolutely, please go ahead and use the before and after pictures. What do you mean in your last sentence? You want me to add another pic of the before? Thank you, we worked hard, painting the cabinets was no joke. we have a very active 5 year old daughter running around ALL THE TIME, ha! We were up until like 1 in the morning painting the cabinets and she wouldn't go to sleep until we finished! it was a chaos, but we did it!...See Moreblossom37
